Du Juan

Sorry to continue this tangent, but I just have to say, I think many on this board would be familiar with the name Zhang Ziyi?
And I don't think ecec meant it that way anyway...ohwell.

Ok SORRY, I know, back to Du Juan!
^She looks amazing at the HK Chanel show! She has such great posture...
And I normally don't like pastel-colored makeup but she carries it flawlessly! Thanks j'ador-Dior! :flower:

ecec, you confuse me so much with your words because I know you're Chinese, too! *Can definitely name off many world-famous Chinese off the top of her head*

Du Juan @ Chanel =

oh haha, what have i missed in the past day... so i'm getting all the heat defending Du Juan when a blatant baseless statement such as this goes unnoticed?

i was giving an equally callous, ignorant rebuttal to an ignorant if not overtly jingoistic statement, if you wish to analyze it. which is cool, but at least back up your claim. by saying only has she had approval by the entire Chinese population could she be allowed success elsewhere in the modeling world, you're implying the Chinese celebrity culture has some great impact, as if China is the mecca of the fashion world or something. And if you think so you've been fed by the propaganda machine a tad too much.
my statement regarding no 'people of importance' was directed to celebridom & popular culture. but i thought i needn't explain that, cause i mean you've gotta be a fool to think i'm suggesting those in the socio/economic/technological sector or it at least demonstrates your lack of analytical skills and most importantly sense of humor. but being here long enough somehow that doesn't surprise me. :innocent:

And yes, i've done enough research by living in the country for 10 years myself ;)

ecec, you could have been more tactful. I get what you mean but, yeah, it sounded quite rude. (:

What goes around comes around.

ecec - Well no, I definitely knew you didn't mean anything social/economic/whatnot related, but Chinese/Taiwanese "celebridom" has definitely provided the world with many recognizable faces in recent years (Not "popular culture," perhaps, but definitely names and faces). I can probably start with the most recent Academy Award winner for Best Director whose film has been undeniably groundbreaking...and knowing that doesn't really require any research, does it? :D

Lived in China for 9 years here! ;) Ni hao tong bao! ^^

well that wasn't really my point. i was simply saying one doesnt need to be recognized by the Chinese mainstream to have appeal elsewhere. and that judging everything by the standard of that culture is pretty futile since it definately isn't diverse enough to reflect the interest of the rest of the world. that is all.
...er but yeah, sure i enjoy indie Asian cinema as the next self-proclaimed 'cultured' person, lol. (one of my fave is "Suzhou River" featuring the lovely Zhou Xun!)

I don't think she is ugly and i don't think she is pretty(a lot of Chinese girls are much prettier than her). she is just a common girl in my opinion. But hundreds of people know her in China and I am one of them. she is quite famous in Chinese fashion industry. Vogue China mentioned her all the time.

ooh!! i'm really sorry about that..!
wont do again

With people who say shes ugly to be a model, models arent supposed to be the most beautiful people in the world, why would Du Juan be the exception?...Beautiful and "perfcet" people are boring, and thats not what a model is suposed to be, they are supposed to be a muse you can use.

Flaws add to the models beauty making them special.

But then again, I dont think Du Juan is even ugly in the "model" way either...

She looked beautiful at Chanel, so thats why ericyoung mentioned she was going to HK!

my point is personally i think she is very ugly! i never say she is not a model, i know vogue mentioned her all the time, but i think. still no many people know about her, cos my friends who read vogue don't get her appeal at all!
