Eczema and Other Skin Disorders

I find scrubbing exacerbates rashes. My situation has definetely gotten better since I'm careful with what I eat. No one notices until they touch it =(.

what about vitamins and supplements? does fish oil (though imo, salmon oil is the best!) work? it does take time though- like you'd have to be on it for a few months

I used to take fish oil everyday until I was paranoid about the odor. I read articles that It can eventually cause fishy body odor. I started taking it again every other day.

I had extreme ezcma the day I came off breastfeeding and I was allergic to almost everything – for six years my parents tried everything – specialists, allergy tests, creams, alimination diets – in the end we tried Chinese Medicine like acupuncture and herbs and from the day I began my eczma cleared up, then it took a few years for it to be gone completely, now no one would ever know and I can eat everything. When I see people who suffer bad eczma or used to and cant get the last bit to go away I tell them about chinese medicine but people get scared – don’t be it turned everything around for me! So now as a general rule I…
- lay low on the peanuts
- take a fish oil tablet every day
- try not to take too long hot showers
- don’t moisturise my skin too often or over-cleanse etc to my face
It’s the little things we do everyday that count…

Acidophilous is a vitimin that helps me control breakouts. It balances the acid in your skin. With long term use it keeps breakouts few and far between. Exzema is toxins trying to be released from your body and this helps them stay in check.

I have had exzema since I was a baby too. There are a million things that I have used, but these are my go to tips for everyone, good luck :flower:

Diet:
-control the amount of Dairy and Citrius you eat

At home:
-try soaking the area in Chamomile tea. This sooths the itching and prevents spreading
-When you breakout on your face, wash with Nizoral (sp?) a dandruff shampoo
-take acidophilous for a long time, lessens the severity of breakouts.
-try glyceryn based moisturisers Ie Glysomed or Crabtree and Evelyn's hand therapy is amazing too (i love the rosewater)

I've had eczema on my hands and fingers for so long, but it disappeared for 5 yrs and now just recently it came back! The worse thing is that I got it now on my face too :( I'm currently treating my acne scars and to have this other thing to cure is very depressing. The nearest appointment i could get with my derm is on the 5th of November, I dont knw if I can wait that long its getting worse and spreading on my face.

You may need to go an urgent care depending on its severity. I had it all over my face once, and it didn't get better until the doctor perscribed me some medicine. I find that the flare ups can really go crazy once the itch-scratch cycle starts, no matter how sterile your enviroment it.

I have mild eczema on the back of my elbow & I recently discovered that shea butter works wonderfully to erase it. I've been reading up on different ways to treat it & I found somewhere online where people were raving about shea butter & how it has all the benefits of a steriod without any of the harmful side effects....thining skin etc. You can buy 100% Shea Butter Balm @ Bath and Body Works for $20. I tried it yesterday since they have samples there & it turned the area red for a bit & you could almost feel it tingling & later that day I went into work & realized that for a long time not only did I not have the urgent need to itch the area, but it had faded a bit & looked more normal. So over time I'm only expecting the area to clear up even more. I was so excited to have finally found something that works so well, so I thought I'd share it with everyone else who suffers from this because it really is a pain in the bum.

ninins .. I guess I've got no choice but to wait for my appointment with the derm.

missbliss .. I have 100% shea butter which I bought from L'occitane and rarely used, i'll start using it till I go see my derm.

thanks ^_^

Back then when I wore watches, i would get rashes around my wrists and it would be very itchy..... then I learned it was eczema and used derm cream (don't know the name but the texture is a bit thicker than vaseline). I have some slight patches between my chest and neck and one on my neck and noticed the more of that cream I put on, the more the area heals quicker, but it also gets a bit brownish (although it fades away in a few weeks).....

any tips?

When i used to get bad outbreaks on hte insides of my elbows, and behind my knees, we would put Aloe Vera plant on - not an aloe vera cream, but the real plant, you slice open the plant and wipe it on the area, or you can even leave the plant directly on and put a bandage round if its real bad - in a matter of hours it will be almost completely disappeared. you can buy little Aloe Vera plants really cheap and keep them on your window sill - they're quite cute actually !

I have really bad recurring urtucaria on my right leg. I also get swollen itchy hair follicles on my leg. Sometimes I get an isolated hive or two on my face and flaking under my eyebrows. It's hell..I scratch my skin until it bleeds, then there's scarring and it looks awful so I never show my legs..

I had psoriasis of the scalp for years .... until I stopped colouring my hair and then it went away... the ammonia aggravates it so much

Tis the season

I LOVE winter, but it cause my skin to become really dry and tight. I'm always scratching and it's very noticible. Some things I've tried to help it out.
humidifying my room when I sleep
applying seabuckthorn oil immediately to wet skin after shower
takings fish oil/ probiotics and mulit vitamin.
I am really miserable, and it seems like nothing is working. It's so hard not to scratch and my skin is so sensitive it'll break out in a rash from just putting on my clothes.

=(

The one thing I found that helped both mine and my partners excema and dermatitis was to up the amount of oils we took. Fish oil, vit E oil, olive oil in pure form (ie not cooked or heated) etc. His skin has been so much better since he started doing this and it was really bad. Mine was only a small case but its completely gone. I think you need to try a variety of things 'cause as you've read some things work for some and not for others. Good luck

I take fish oil, and I use a lot of olive oil...do you take olive oil by the spoonfool or just use it to garnish food?

i have psoriasis :(...it's not a fun skin condition at all--although it has been under control lately--one can barely see it now, and it is a lot less uncomfortable tha it was last year--I just hope it doesn't come back anytime soon!

I've had psoriasis since birth. I have it on my scalp, back, legs, arms and on my face, which is rare.
I've used hundreds of POMs and over the counter creams/meds but nothing but a simple moisturiser works. I use Nivea Soft, on my psoriasis and it keeps it under control.
I also use a mild steriod cream (Prescription only) on the patches around my eyes.

^yeah in the the winter I sometimes get it on my face, but it is so much better this year than last..dovonex seems to work okay for me, but it is so so greasy. Does nivea soft really help?
