Elle UK August 2009 : Emma Watson

Good idea, poor execution. They have made an attempt at giving Emma a little Madonna-ness but they have failed miserably. Watson's maturity is not well expressed in the cover nor in the other photographs due to the ridiculous make-up and styling. In fact, they have made her look younger than she is. In fact, to me, they have made her look like a 14 year old dressed for a end of term disco eager to smuggle in a Smirnoff Ice.

omg no!!! those eyes dont suit her at all, same for the pose! the us teen vogue shoot was sooo much better ! :(

Could someone confirm the photographer and the stylist info for the cover, please? Thanks! :flower:

The subscriber's cover is better, but I don't get the open legs thing..

It seems like they are trying to style her as if they were styling Kristen Stewart and they are light years apart, they don't really highlight her elegant poise and graceful style for such a young girl.

I underestimated this issue when I saw the review.
I am surprised to see that both of the editorials inside are actually good. Heather's is a bit on the boring side.
But Pixie's defiantly has the wow factor. The colours and styling is good.

In the September issue (on sale 5th August). You get exclusive designer notebooks.
The covers are designed by John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood and Giles.
They are the same covers as the special collectors from the March 2008 issue.

They've done a good job packaging this issue to make it look like value for money on the newsstand, because of the plastic fold-out with the supplement and the vest. I'm impressed to see that the supplement has a spine, instead of being one of those flimsy stapled affairs.

I impressed with this issue.

I like the editor's letter this month, the way it's done with a series of back stage photographs and notes on it. Nice.

Subscribers cover is a much better shot as well it has to be said.

Pinkie's shoot is nice - I showed my collection at Graduate Fashion Week the other week and she was one of the girls who wore one of my dresses actually.

Subscriber's cover is better than newsstand, as always. That's cool.
Thanks, vogue28.

honeycombchild tkan you :flower:
I very curious what's is inside Supplement ^_^

I got the issue this afternoon - in the supplement, the beauty pages are good, and that's always been one of UK Elle's strengths. However, to my eyes, the way they've arranged some of the catwalk pages is horrendous.

On the afflicted pages, the individual shots are all different sizes, and randomly distributed, some are cut off down the side or at the waist. Maybe some people might like that layout, but I'd rather Natasha Poly kept her chin, or that the upper half of someone's body was included so you could see the total look.

This is a purely personal preference for some sort of order in the display of catwalk shots, not every page is like that - some are nicely ordered.

As for the main issue, I thought there'd be more new ads. There aren't that many - in terms of the main names, it seems to be LV Madonna, Anja Gucci, Chanel, Christy YSL and Chloe. The two editorials are OK and I do get the sense there's a decent amount of articles (but whether they're any good is another matter).

However, I also got July US Vogue today, and it seems to have twice the content while being half the size. I don't regret buying the UK Elle, because it means I've seen an August issue - but when the rest of the month's magazines arrive, they might be much better, so I couldn't automatically recommend buying this, without seeing those.
