> They seem to be aiming to be a bit more like UK Harpers
Yes, I thought that too - and it's not a good thing to revamp into a pale imitation of something already out on the newsstand.
When I first saw the cover, I was so excited that UK Elle had gone back to using supermodels, and luscious ones at that, that I was going to buy it to support them. But when I flicked through the issue, the main impression I got from the redesign was a sense of emptiness, and a lack of purpose. I think this magazine is badly adrift in the market, at the moment, though hiding it well.
Consider: what makes UK Elle different from UK Vogue or Bazaar that I should buy it instead? Vogue has access to the top talent, and Bazaar's redesign has been very impressive.
And what makes UK Elle different from all the fashion weeklies that I could buy, which cover trends faster and with a greater interpretation of high street shops?
Moreover, magazines like UK Glamour are cheaper and seem to offer more intimiate content about beauty and style.
I don't want UK Elle to die, but they need to find a new unique selling point in the market, and put all their energies behind ithat, rather than coming up with a few new fonts.
