Franck Boclet, appointed to relaunch menswear for Emanuel Ungaro, meanwhile told AFP he imagined he was creating for "the grandson of Steve McQueen or Marlon Brando" for his first collection for the house.
His vision of Ungaro man was "elegant, modern, but also a great chameleon."

The former designer at Francesco Smalto concentrated on luxury fabrics, like cashmere, with great attention to detail for his wardrobe for spring-summer 2008 in a sober palette of black, white, grey and maroon.

He showed narrow jackets with silk lapels, pleated trousers, and fine pullovers in pale grey with scooped necklines like the "U" of Ungaro or a horseshoe, worn over white shirts and burgundy ties.

Safari and suede jackets with jeans or white trousers tucked into high boots and riding coats had a cavalier feel.

why hasn't this collection gotten a write-up on the conde nast sites? this show had such an optimistic and peaceful spirit about it that reminded me of sunnier times in fashion -- something related to that last menswear show from gianfranco ferre or maybe even old ysl menswear under tom ford.

and those tuxedos are the best i've seen in some time...

I LOVE!!! From the trenches to the jackets to the shoes to the SUNGLASSES! Its all great!
Something I can imagine extremely rich poker players wearing.

love the boots. adore the colour palette. the cuts are perfect. very sexy collection.

however, i completely abhor, detest, despise and loooaaathe the logo-strewn tees. absolutely dreadful.

that is the only 'mannish' collection I can remember this season away from the 'boyish' wave.

I really like this collection. It's very sexy and masculine. It's very light and airy.
