Ryan Murphy Says Emma Roberts Returned to "American Horror Story" As a Favor
There's been a lot of excitement over Emma Roberts' long-awaited return to American Horror Story this year. After all, it's been a couple of seasons since we saw her portray Maggie Esmerelda in Freak Show, and her presence in the upcoming chapter will certainly help fill that Scream Queens-sized hole in our hearts. And just a few days ago, we learned the details about who Emma will be portraying: a news anchor named Serina Belinda.
It turns out, however, that Emma will only be in one episode of AHS: Cult, according to a Q+A that showrunner Ryan Murphy participated in recently. As for how she got involved with the popular series once again? She apparently joined the cast as a favor to Ryan, despite the fact that her schedule was already jam-packed.
"She carved it out in her movie schedule," Ryan said of Emma's willingness to take part in AHS' seventh season. "But it's really fun to work with people that way. And we really encourage all of the people on our show, like, once you're in that world, like, okay, if you want to go off and do something else, that's great, but come back."
We definitely like that attitude, as it means there's still hope for other fan-favorites (like Jessica Lange) to return to the series eventually. Ryan even commented on the possibility of Jessica coming back to AHS, saying: "I'm sure she'll be back someday." Hey, if AHS is ever going to connect all of its seasons, we'll definitely need her - and Emma - in order to put the final puzzle pieces together.
