Estee Lauder has as quoted in earlier posts often been seen as a brand for older women in the past, quite especially with their fragrances. My mother wore nothing else for almost 40 years since she was a young girl and I guess family habits (or traditions) get passed on.
I worked at David Jones in Sydney part time during my Uni years and I was blessed to work in make up (Generic brands mostly). Though I was quite close to the Estee Lauder counter and her sister brand Clinique, I was always captivated by their advertising materials, campaigns etc. For presents that I wanted to give Mum, I'd often wait for the gift packs to come out, as she would give those to me. So now, as a 30 year old, I'm using a lot of the products and have been for some 3 years now. I don't think I'd go back to my other brands now.
