WOW

Ethnic jewlery is a huge trend for Spring 2005, but I think people have been wearing it (as a trend) sens this summer or earlier.

The prayer beads kind of bother me though, becuase of the spiritual value in hinduism and buddhism, i find it disrespectful unless you at leats knwo what they stand for.

Yeah, definitely. I think a lot of it started at Raf Simons' spring 2004 show, staged way back in July 2003. Though I'm sure it originally started on the street.

I think the second picture is Boy. Why doesn't he post here anymore?

yes Raf jewlery is gorgeous

It's so funny that the Junya zipper necklaces where posted here, becuase the first thing i thought of when I saw them was egyptian and middle eastern jewlery.

OMG!!!
Those zipper neck pieces!

I wondered what happened to Boy as well....

aren't they just amazing looking. I especially like the purple-y blue backing fabric the zips are sewn onto. its a great colour of antiqued gold - gold looks fresh in this context.

my mum has a lot of the arabic stuff pictured above-i love arabic inspired things because i feel so close to it. when i was in dubai i loved going through their magazines and buying stuff from their jewellery stores. it makes my outfits a bit more individual. i recently found some oxidised silver bangles in her drawers and some really beautiful pashminas. thank God for stylish mummies!!!

does anyone know where I could find some cute, simple lariat necklaces? I live in Southern CA, and can't find anything worth buying!!

Very nice! :flower:

I like the sound of yours, ImpossiblePrincess, although I get the impression these aren't what you meant?

those zippered necklaces are gorgeous!! And I agree helena it makes gold look fresh. which is quite a feat! hehe. Gorg. There is this really odd and random ethnic/indian shop around here that I visited once and might go and check and see what they have again.

thankyou saturnine ! :flower:
I like all the ones posted but in case anyone was wondering what i meant exactly was usually long necklace made of beads, with a tassle as the pendant. (sort of like the tassle Chanel used on their old handbags) They look very middle eastern, in fact I believe Muslims use them as prayer beads. They are gorgeous and usually glam up an outfit instantly. I just bought another in black becuae i figured that will go with anything-it's really long, almost hip length, but I sort of double it up so it looks like two necklaces, with a black thick tassle at the end. On mine you can take the tassle off but I think that's the most important part. I attached a silver diamond "Aum" pendant onto it too, (I'm Hindu) and it looks really cool! I'm still trying to find pics. I'm sure there were some on the runway.

I have Lariats

For anyone that doesn't know what a lariat is, I design and sell them - I've attached a picture of one. The ones I have are made of leather cord, but there are designers doing them in suede lace, chain or completely beaded styles. At each end of the cord are semiprecious and/or organic embellishments.

A "LASSO" is the type of neck adornment that has the loop at one end with some type of embllishment at the other end. Lassos aren't as versatile as the LARIAT, which can also be used as a belt.

From "MetalonMetals' Post
The colors of the stones in this necklace look like the colors of the Chakras - although the model is wearing them (or the designer designed them) upside down....Red is the root chakra (the genitals)...with violet at the Crown chakra (the top of the head.)

LOL...also the colour of a rainbow... ;)
i think if it was designed to be chakras...it probably wouldn't be upside down...but it would have been interesting to do it that way...
thanks audrey and welcome to tfs... :flower:
