Eugenia Silva

She was at a Chaumet party on Place Vendome few days ago (on 6.07.06 more precisely), are there some pics somewhere?
She's gorgeous in real life, and very kind, moreover. A great person.

Happy Birthday

Elie Saab - Haute Couture Spring 2007
(January 22, 2007, Paris)

(click to enjoy)

PARIS, January 22, 2007 – Steadfastly refusing to take last summer’s conflict in Lebanon as any kind of setback, Elie Saab said he based his couture collection on “the colors of dawn over Beirut,” and his compatriots’ ability “to make beautiful things in the face of adversity.” Compared with his recent all-gold, reach-for-your-shades ready-to-wear show, that made for a lighter and somewhat subtler affair in silvered tints of blue, lilac, and eau-de-nil.

Still, Saab isn’t a couturier to hammer on high concepts or political subtexts. With the Golden Globes down and Beyoncé, Felicity Huffman, and Sheryl Crow in the bag, he’s produced a gazillion more options for Oscar night—and for any other event at which a girl might find herself in need of a scintillating something or other. Spun out en masse, the vast array of dresses in either fluid metallics or accordion pleats made for a slightly daunting fashion show. But there were winners, including a pale-blue silvery wrap gown and several floating asymmetries of beaded lace with irregular necklines and interesting volumes at the back that will photograph well from every angle on the red carpet. He's learning.

Armani Privé - Haute Couture Spring 2007
(January 24, 2007, Paris)

PARIS, January 24, 2007 – The front row at Armani Privé made a riveting study. There was Cate Blanchett, in a strict, forties-shouldered black tuxedo skirtsuit. And one along, there was Katie Holmes, in an apple-green bustier gown with something diaphanously sari-like going on at the side. The venue was packed with 600 who had come to Paris to see Giorgio Armani’s biggest couture presentation yet, but would any of them be able to drag their eyes away from the celebrity sideshow to attend to the small matter of the fashion that was about to parade in front of them?

As it happens, the clothes did win the tussle for attention, at least for a respectable portion of the 65-look show—and against such starry competition, that’s saying something. This was Armani’s best couture performance so far, and a clue was in Mrs. Cruise’s dress: It was about India. Or, rather, about Armani’s chic-ed up take on the subcontinent, the emerging market that has so many designers so excited.

The look might be described as “Maharani of Milan.” The show opened with a collarless black pantsuit, a curving steel cutlass with a decorative hilt stabbed through one lapel. That set the tone: a merge of Armani’s signature jackets and monotone greige palette with Indian-inflected cuts and bejeweled embellishment. For day, he worked a new sense of ease into Empire jackets with deep ruffles, crafted a twist and curve into knee-length skirts, and caught a sophisticated sense of the trend for tunic and leggings with translations of the traditional kurta. The shoes—cutaway gray pinstripe pumps with big jewels on the toe—also struck a nicely judged east-west balance.

All this, before getting down to the real business at hand: the Academy Award evening pieces for Blanchett and Co.’s perusal. In that department, too, there were outstanding moments, particularly a drop-dead gorgeous one-shouldered silver-embroidered white sheath. If there were an Oscar for the couture gown of the season, that one would be up there with the nominees.

PARIS, January 22, 2007 – With his spring couture, Valentino revisited his all-white collection of 1968, the year in which he designed Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress for her marriage to Ari Onassis. And to underscore the memory—at least, for those who have the recall—he presented it in a series of intimate, tulle-curtained salons reminiscent of the show in the Sala Bianca in Rome that propelled him onto the world stage.

On a cold Paris night in January 2007, in a different world, it was perhaps asking too much of his audience to comprehend the full import of the reference. In any case, there was nothing necessarily historical about the clothes, only a series of plays on Valentino's signature details—the satin rouleaux edgings, the bias-cut ruffles, the silk draping. For his loyal couture customer, who appreciates such things as a neat coat over a little beaded dress, there was plenty that will appeal, and the fragile white gowns will speak volumes to a girl who seeks a dainty red-carpet silhouette in which to set herself apart—ask Cameron Diaz.

Ironically, though, it wasn’t all the white that set the fashion crowd talking, but a singular piece of daywear: a collarless, Empire-line princess coat. It was sugar-almond pink and perfect—so perfect, in fact, it left a sense of frustration that the maestro could have done more in the same vein. Perhaps Valentino is hanging fire. Word has it he’s preparing a major celebration for his next couture show in July, when the full scope of his métier is certain to be laid out in myriad splendor.

Yes she is gorgeous and I love her smile!

And I wouldn't call her "old" - she became 31 on January 13 (she was born at January 13, 1976).
