For reasons which continue to elude me, Americans over the last 20 years have developed the most spectacularly ugly "I'm on vacation!" dress code imaginable (My parents are loyal adherents, sadly). Next time you see someone decked out in white trainers, khaki shorts, and fanny pack in your pictureque town, you can rest assured that it's an American tourist.

I wish I'd had a camera with me in town today. There was a guy with a navy tailcoat, light brown waistcoat, and off-white collared shirt, paired with some slim brown cords and cool boots. He even managed to pull it off!

That's so true... I 'm living in Rome right now and the dressing sense really sucks here. All these girls with straight hair, huge sunglasses, baggy pants and the latest Miss Sixty tops drive me a bit crazy I think they are somewhat still stuck in that '80's' phase. And in the highstreet shops you see cheap Roberto Cavalli copies everywhere... I so much began to appreciate fashion in my homecountry/town (of course there are exceptions)
btw in Holland/Belgium 'Londsdale' is getting a bad reputation as it worn by racists (the letters nsda would refer to hitler's nsdap) and in Italy everyone is wearing it

Yes. But Lonsdale is mostly worn by "truzzi"
"Truzzo" is a word that designates fashion-unaware narrow-minded most-of-the-time-ignorant people... Also, most of neo-nazis and neo-fascist wear Lonsdale bomber. And ultras too (ultras are the football addicted... like hooligans... in Italy they are mainly from extreme-right-wing).

I don't know why it's so wide spread among this kind of people... it's strange but that's it!

Oh, and I've read about Eastpack backbag Even here, you're perfectly right... EVERY SINGLE boy/girl/child has one of its own... I always loathed those bags 'cause they are too mainstream... until my grandma gave me one as a gift for sure she was worried about her nephew not having one

I already knew that... but still... try and browse a little this thread and compare it to the "japanese street style" one... I'm not saying that they are not brand-addicted, just that they often mix things up in a strange way (at least strange from my perspective).

Anyway trust me, the average japanese is better than the average italian
(and I AM italian)

No!! no, wait! I had an Invicta bag when I was like 8 years old

"de puta madre" that's the worst trash I've ever witnessed in my whole life... but there are quite a few brands like that... you can usually see them on people with oufits like "nike silver", denim (with horrible washes), plenty of gel on their hairs and huge sunglasses.

actually I think that the denim you dress speaks of you in a very clear and distinct way

the average guy isn't very fashinable indeed

anyway I think that the problem might be that younger people look at MTV veejays or soccer player like a "successful person you wanna look like", and so to conform to that standard they try to dress like them, but soccer players are like cavemen when talking about fashion...

anyway, why are you here in Italy? Erasmus/study? or work?
