Fall/Winter 2013.14 - One Of The Worst Seasons Ever?

I don't have to much time in tfs, and mostly, i don't have the sensibility of some users to identify the many elements behind a collection. But i have to say that this is one of the most uninspiring boring seasons ever. Most of the designers seems to be tired. Maybe it's time to change and start to look another fashion weeks, independent designers are doing a thousand times better. Economical crisis may have something to do, but there's not justification at all of this mess.

Or maybe it's just the trends, all i saw was fur aplications, houndstooth pattern and a very conservative mood in every board.

Only few brands impressed me.
Prada,Hussien and LV

I really miss Nicholas Ghesquiere, he was one of the pillars in Paris. Thank you suits!

As for indies, please take a lot at Masha Ma....I am quite amazed by her maturity, even though I wish she didn't lose the edgier sensibility of past collections.

I think this season is one of the worst because there's no excitement! If you notice, the designers and collections forum is usually very very busy and active during fashion week. Someone would post pictures from the show right away. But this season is not like that! The collections threads are fairly quiet and only bad collections threads that get attention. I personally feel that this season is definitely a lackluster season.

For the most part of the big fashion houses, it was terrible, indeed. The good stuff that came out was from smaller designers and didn't really have much exposure (take for example the Delpozo collection, which wasn't even featured in any major fashion publications, which beats Givenchy, Balmain, mVersace and etc out of the freaking water).

I agree and I thought the same about menswear last month. The smaller/less known designers had better collections.

yeah I look back I can only remember

Paris
Louis Vuitton
Celine
Sacai
Rick Owens
Balenciaga
Haider Ackermann
Hussein Chalayan

Milan
Prada

London
Christopher Kane
Tom Ford

New York
3.1 Phillip Lim
Proenza Schouler
Oscar de la Renta
Altuzarra
Alexander Wang

very lackluster season but perhaps the most commercially successful season?

I think the collections get worse every season now. It's been like that since S/S 2010.
Designers lack ideas and many collections from different designers are very similar.

Big chance they've got great ideas in their mind, but don't show them because there's no room for it (economical situation). It has to sell; play it safe.

Personally, I'm getting sick of so-called minimalist fashion and bland looking models showing it. I want to be entertained.

For me fashion is getting worse every season.

Thanks of the....INTERNET.

Fashion was doing better before Twitter, Nowfashion, JakandJil, Tumblr etc...

I take for instance the summer 2008 season which is one my favourite. It happened before the raise of those medias who gives an extra pressure to fashion designers. Everything goes too fast. Too many designers, clothes and so little time.

So many things are wrong in fashion

-designers who do crap and in charge of big houses for too long (no need for name dropping)
-the fashion press which has no freedom. everything is praised....
-too many fashion bloggers with no real vision and who spoil the fashion world

And for this season, I am blaming Phoebe Philo. It's not her fault, but everyone is copying her. She is very good at what she is doing for Céline, but the Céline silhouette is so praised that it became a standard now. So what do we get now ? Copies of Philo's ideas the season after. blah

Can't agree more. I like Celine but I want to see a huge variety of styles. I like Proenza Schouler so much but they seem to be more and more a Celine/Balenciaga by Nicolas wannabe. And I can't stand the bland futuristic fashion like Alexander Wang. It's boring. Bland models+boring clothing= the most lackluster combination.

But thanks to them, I would start to notice the good but not so famous brands.

Yes! "This" was in my mind for 3 years.

F/W 2009 (or even S/S 2009) was the last good season...

for me fashion for the last 5 years or so has given me this feeling...fashion now days is so accessible to everyone en masse that it takes a lot now to wow us..also fashion is being churned out faster and faster that our expectations are a lot higher now then they have ever been in my opinion..clothes are more wearable then they have ever been the and some of the spendor & art in design has been lost..fashion is deffiantly going through a huge change and this is the arquid in between stage..the one good thing though about the larger houses being nothing special is it gives smaller labels the chance to shine for once..I know I personally gain more inspiration from smaller labels then I do the larger ones.

yeah i remember the day when we only had style.com/vogue,hanatsubuki(the online magazine for shiseido),firstview and catwalking.....and really the only blog/vlog who covered fashion was diane pernet. and most of what she covered were the smaller shows. no more. everything is so instant and i agree not as thrilling in that capacity.

but for me in terms of creativity and individuality,i think this season was actually a lot more positive than perceived.

I hated this season, there was hardly anything noteworthy. Fall 2006, Spring 2007 (maybe fall 2007 or fall 2008) were the last few good seasons for me before everything started to become commercialized and all the same. Givenchy used to be so avant-garde when Tisci first started but look at it now. McQueen has been taken over and turned has been turned bland, and now Ghesquiere has left Balenciaga. All the greats are gone, and there aren't many left to surprise us and give us the thrill of the new :(
