A leader of the Pop Art Movement, Jim Dine first studied at the University of Cincinnati, The Boston Museum of Fine Arts School and the University of Ohio. His first exhibition was with fellow artist and co-collaborator, Claes Oldenburg in 1959. In the Dadaist style, Dine used mixed media and the ready-made to produce his paintings. He began experimenting with performance art in the 1950’s. His later work is a return to traditional painting techniques incorporated with collage, printing, etching, and paper-making.

Leon Bakst was also the official artistic director of Sergei Diaghilev's Russian Ballet-and created all the costumes for their ground breaking performances, like Scheherezade or L'apres midi d'un faune(this paricular show influenced the ballet scene in Queen's 'I want to break free" video). He was involved in french fashion, working for Worth, Paquin or Paul Poiret.

Galliano declared that his spring/summer 98 collection was influenced by the style and personality of princesse Marthe Bibesco, eccentric and incredibly elegant French writer of Romanian origin.( some interesting quotes from her:“I have not got eyes to look, but to be looked at."
“Fashion is what clothes reality and offers dreams.”)

I thought this collection was inspired by the Marchesa Cassati...maybe I'm mistaken.

who's jim dine please?...

taz- i went to the ysl exhibit myself...;)...but only once...

I loved that place, i can feel the great culture of this man, I think he made history by linking his name with fine art, not only in design, but by sponsoring the re-development of Pompidou Centre in Paris & helding his last show there- I had tears in my eyes that night, for me it was the saddest moment in fashion- u can see YSL's name on a huge wall inside the contemoprary art gallery.
but on the other hand it was very intellgent act, because he linked his name with the modren art & made the designers confused in how do end their career.

yves was also the sponser for the golden shell addition on the top of The egyptian obelisk at the The Place de la Concorde.
plus the london art gallery stuff which i posted on the 1st page of this thread .

and here is another painting for a designer by an artist, Yves by ANDY WARHOL.
