RICHEMONT
http://www.richemont.com/brands/allbrands.php
Is the second largest luxury brands group in the world after LVMH .
Prada , Gucci , etc are much smaller fish as they comprise mostly clothing brands with their attendant accessories , perfumes etc .
PPR , which owns GUCCI is the nearest to LVMH in France , as it owns department stores and allied retail enterprises .
Prada owns Helmut Lang , Jil Sander , Genny , Carshoe , Churches shoes etc , but is on a knife edge financially , having overexpanded its collection of brands ( Lang , Sander ) and failed unsuccessfully to float itself on the market at least twice .
The Dumas-Hermes family own JEAN PAUL GAULTIER , JOHN LOBB - PARIS ( NOT John Lobb - London ) , but Hermes is itself partly owned ( 40% , I think ) by a Japanese conglomerate .
If we're talking conglomerates , ISSEY MIYAKE INTERNATIONAL is enormous ,
A-Net being the overall holding company for the main lines , Issey Miyake Women , Men , Haat , Me - Issey Miyake , plus the smaller ones ,

Somone else could possibly tell us about the other Japanese conglomerates like ONWARD KASHIYAMA etc
The vogue for a fashion group to turn itself into a huge luxury conglomerate has now faded as ALL luxury groups are now struggling : both Gucci and Prada have overstepped themselves . As Diorlig has told us , even LVMH is on a knife edge - depending upon Dior and Vuitton for practically ALL of its profits .
CHANEL , owned by the Wertheimer family is the only really profitable ' petit ' conglomerate, with its own stable of couture ateliers , but the house only makes a profit on its perfumes . Wertheimer brought Gabrielle Chanel back to her eponymous house from her post-war disgrace , simply as a means of gaining maximum exposure for the perfumes . ( When all is said and done , and Dame Karla has strutted his stuff , he is only a glorified perfume salesman , as was proven by the £2,000,000 TV commercial for Chanel No.5 , last Christmas ) . It's the revenue from the perfumes that keeps this house afloat .
