Fashion Conglomerates

RICHEMONT

http://www.richemont.com/brands/allbrands.php

Is the second largest luxury brands group in the world after LVMH .

Prada , Gucci , etc are much smaller fish as they comprise mostly clothing brands with their attendant accessories , perfumes etc .

PPR , which owns GUCCI is the nearest to LVMH in France , as it owns department stores and allied retail enterprises .

Prada owns Helmut Lang , Jil Sander , Genny , Carshoe , Churches shoes etc , but is on a knife edge financially , having overexpanded its collection of brands ( Lang , Sander ) and failed unsuccessfully to float itself on the market at least twice .

The Dumas-Hermes family own JEAN PAUL GAULTIER , JOHN LOBB - PARIS ( NOT John Lobb - London ) , but Hermes is itself partly owned ( 40% , I think ) by a Japanese conglomerate .

If we're talking conglomerates , ISSEY MIYAKE INTERNATIONAL is enormous ,
A-Net being the overall holding company for the main lines , Issey Miyake Women , Men , Haat , Me - Issey Miyake , plus the smaller ones ,

Somone else could possibly tell us about the other Japanese conglomerates like ONWARD KASHIYAMA etc

The vogue for a fashion group to turn itself into a huge luxury conglomerate has now faded as ALL luxury groups are now struggling : both Gucci and Prada have overstepped themselves . As Diorlig has told us , even LVMH is on a knife edge - depending upon Dior and Vuitton for practically ALL of its profits .

CHANEL , owned by the Wertheimer family is the only really profitable ' petit ' conglomerate, with its own stable of couture ateliers , but the house only makes a profit on its perfumes . Wertheimer brought Gabrielle Chanel back to her eponymous house from her post-war disgrace , simply as a means of gaining maximum exposure for the perfumes . ( When all is said and done , and Dame Karla has strutted his stuff , he is only a glorified perfume salesman , as was proven by the £2,000,000 TV commercial for Chanel No.5 , last Christmas ) . It's the revenue from the perfumes that keeps this house afloat . :o

LVHM makes around 4,000 million in sales from fashion but also 2,000 million from wine and 2,000 million from perfume and cosmetics - their biggest market for fashion is JAPAN! Their biggest market for wine is America...

its depressing to think all our fave diverse brands are owned by a handful of companies. makes one appreciate thje independents- i can only think of rykiel - can anyone name some others?

ALL the american (ny based ) designers are independent...
except for donna karan who sold to lvmh not so long ago...

i'm sure all the smaller contemporary designers in LA are also independent...

my friend (who knows donna) says she is not very happy with lvmh anyways:innocent:

Except,Marc Jacobs of course Softie. Otherwise, now that you say, they are actually. Which is odd considering how much the established here handle business like conglomerates.

Ooo, designer gossip. The best.

Who owns Roland Mouret? Manolo Blahnik? Christian Louboutin? Coach? Dooney & Bourke?

LVMH owns Dior, Galliano, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and that's all i know...

i think that Moschino owns Narciso Rodriguez

and Gucci Group owns Gucci, YSL Rive gauche ( i think), Stella Mccartney, and Alexander Mcqueen

Nope. Dior owns LVMH. Or about 42.5 % of it.

Anyways. I thought that bit was interesting.

I know it's not as Designer-y as LVMH... but Liz Claiborne owns almost everyone... same with Jones NY

Just the other day I found out that United Colors of Benetton, Sisley, Playlife, and Killer Loop were all owned by Benetton Group.

Gap,Banana Republic and Old Navy are all owned by Gap INC

I think there is another store that also belongs to that group but I cant remember which one it is.

I also think that LVMH owns Gianfranco Ferrè, non?

Not forgetting the AEFFE Fashion Group that owns:

alberta ferretti ( and philosophy)
moschino ( and cheap and chic)
narciso rodrieguez
jean paul gaultier
and 2 smaller italian brands velmar and pollini

( and i think missoni is still an independent family concern, what about krizia?)

i know they are owned by the Ferreti family but..
does AEFFE own or just manufactures moschino/Polini/ Gaultier etc?
cause i know Gaultier is semi owned by Hermes right ??

who what?

Could you please explain that bit about Dior owning 40% of LVMH instead of the other way round?
