Fashion snobbery

but not a anything near a fashionista (...yet). ;)

Oh my God! Please ..do not use the "F" word in here ... I've already been there!

PS I know exactly how you feel! :flower:

i actually feel the same way....i used to be the one with the guess purses, and i wouldnt care, but now that i can afford nicer things...i kinda dropped the guess purses to the back of the closet....

When those ugly LV knock off bags took off and everyone of my friends wanted one and I had to tell them after they spent $50 on a knock off that they were the ugliest bags in the world.. I felt a little snobby than.

what a run on sentence..:innocent:

Am I turning into a snob?
....I'm starting to look down on people wearing non-designer name brands... particularly HANDBAGS.

:D i absolutely look down to people whenever they are : wearing/having/holding mainstream designer brand items while thinking "he he he anotherone bites the dust" or just "what a shame to wear fakes" and this is what some of my friends call 'a real snob' :ninja: :p

Behind closed doors I wonder if I am being percieved as a snob, when in fact I am just attempting to enjoy a hobby that I LOVE.

Fashion can be such a societal barrier...

I also find that - in a room full of people - the girl with the 'prettiest shoes' (NOT necessarily the most expensive) commands the most power....sometimes women find this incredibly threatening and assume you must be a snob.

I guess it's just the Western way of dictating a hierarchy amongst the fashion savvy... kind of like those women who stretch their necks with those gold rings...

The best thing I can think of to ward off those who may think I am a snob (not that I care so much) - is to really find things about people that I like (their clothing, hair, makeup that day, ANYTHING), and always share those compliments with them.

I am also very honest with my opinions - so that i am not keeping information to myself. If a friend of mine wanted to buy-say, a Guess purse - I might suggest they look for something more original in the same price range.

nice thread,
I love people with style and I hate seeing fashion slaves without it.
Snob or not I don't judge,I feel bad when I see bad taste outfits and enjoy interesting looking people only..they are hard to find

I wouldn't say im a snob because i dont judge people on their style..but the only thing that irritates me is when those popular b*tches running around with their LV bags/uggs/skirts thinking their hot sh*t

I think there is a difference between analyzing someones style and being a snob about it, like if someones a snob they will point out that there stuff is more expansive and always flaunt there labels. I usually try to play down my clothes when people ask becasue are so label driven these days.

I totally agree with you!
I will play down my clothes and the prices of them (for people that actually have the nerve to ask) because I dont want to appear snobby or make people be like "damn".

I know I'm a snob when it comes to craftsmanship. Luxury goods or no, there's not an excuse for poor craftsmanship at any price.

Why the dislike of the word fashionista?

i think i would qualify as a snob in the way i get too esoteric sometimes with fashion/ design and get critical about the "meaning" of things...but i try not to judge others--i think if anyone could be labeled a fashion "geek" that would be me...i'm always up for arty analytical conversations..

who cares about what some other people that you don't even care or know,wears...? lol

Im not a snob. I just like what I like. This board is soo addicting! But very educational and you get to see stuff that most people dont. I have learned about new designers and old designers that I thought I didnt like I know like them. Most of the people on here arent snobs.

I know this is lame, and I am shy of confessing something so shameful, but here I go.

Exactly two years ago, when I initially decided to join tFS, I really wanted to mess up the whole board. I had been reading it for a while, and I remember there was some Murakami multicolor bags thread, and there was a whole bunch of ladies bragging about their bag, and how they have contacts to get on the waiting list, and on how paying 1000$ + for such a beautiful bag was no big deal for the quality you were getting. I really wanted to join tFS to be able to say : "Go to $**%&&$% you bunch of snob people, what on earth is that kind of talking!?!??!".

But to tFS' luck, when I subscribed the the board, I could not post messages because my username/password did not work, and then like a few months later, when I could finally post messages, I had been lurking on the website for quite a while and since my "fashion mentality" had been so much influenced by the beauty of fashion, I became a "tFS snob"..... :o

I do find that I judge people... a LOT walking around especially fake bags... that is the worst.

And badly dressed as well.

I dont consider myself a snob.

^i think if you stick around this board it is inevitable you will develop a critical eye--we could all be snobs in the making! my ex-teacher once reversed the snobbery by buying his daughter a real louis bag and spray painting on top of it and then giving it to her! i thought that was pretty funny.

It kinda was before this forum though...

Ive always been like that.

In response to your statement, yes, you're a snob...and IMO there's nothing worse than being a snob... I find it tacky in a way...

I celebrate personal style, innovative people, actually, people that don't give a fcuk... it's absurd when I see people judging someone because of what they wear, or how they look like...

When I was hiring sales associates at Intermix down here in Bal Harbour, I was looking for skills, faces, attitudes, while my co workers were looking if she walked in with Mystique sandals and a Chloe bag... of course I didn't have as much power as they did, so they ended up hiring stupid airheads, that were all looks and superficial image... The ones that had the skills, and couldn't afford to dress from our store, they 86'ed them out of the office... very sad, very stupid.

I dunno, I think this topic is very stupid, but it has to be discussed...

Its sad when it causes discrimination (sp?) thats sad Im black I should know how to spell that? ha ha j/k!!!
But it really is sad when you dont get hired somewhere based on how you dress. Its funny because style and fashion is so..whats the word im looking for....I dont know but its like one person will love it another will hate it. But you know what I've found is snobs like to deal with other snobs, so if thats the kind of clientele you want to attract then there ya go.
