Looking at what I know and have seen at this moment in time, I don't get the commotion around this collection. Perhaps someone who experienced the newness of this collection could explain it :flower:

I remember when that collection came out it caused a small scandal. The fashion world was in shock because of the fact that someone sent images of homelessness and insanity down a runway, and a haute couture runway at that. But the shock went beyond the fashion world, many people felt John was looking at his inspiration (the homeless people on the banks of the Siene) in an unsensitive manner and that the misfortune of these people didn't belong being paraded down a fashion runway.

I personally loved this collection because of all of this, and I remember an interview with John where he was asked about the collection and his inspiration was a romantic notion that these people were aristocrats who sort of relinquished their wealth and took a life of making beautiful clothes out of sheer need for them......he explained it much more eloquently then me but that's the general idea.

My absolute FAVORITE couture show of all time was Thierry Mugler's last show, especially the very last piece, where he paraded the model w/ a tight-fitting corset (a la Mr. Pearl) to resemble an insect, and colored to look like a fly's eye...Dramatic make-up & specialized contacts to complete the insect look! Absolutely gorgeous!

Unfortunately I cant access it anymore on firstview.com. I wonder if anybody else has pictures from that show.

Nevermind, turns out I didn't capitalize the G in Givenchy...Wouldn't they be normal and list these designers?

was dior 2000 the inspiration of Zoolander's Mugato Derelict campaign?

i love all the pics! Thanks for postin everyone.

kittykat, I think it was a generalization. They were making fun of the whole idea of high-end designers making clothes that look like trash. That is almost a all-Galliano trait.

Ah, here's what I was thinking. Not exactly the collection or piece I had in mind, but you get the idea.

My oh my--how I do miss the drama and fantasy and that was Thierry Mugler!

Actually, I believe Zoolander came out after that collection, so in reality it had nothing to do with John's idea.

And I agree tiffany, it was brilliant. Definitly one of my faves if not the fave

I loved the pink cotton candy-ness at Chanel SS 03 couture, from www.elle.com:

One of the better moments for Versace couture in the past 5 years or so, was FW 03. It's sad that it only had 5 dresses, and that Donatella through that feather thing on Hana in the second pic :P :
