i'm going through my own spanish lit class. reading all the greats: Vargas Llosa, Bolaños, Benedetti, Asturias, Octavio Paz, Borges, carlos fuentes, Cortázar and imo no one beats Gabriel García Marquez.

and his magnum opus: Cien Años de Soledad
that's the one book i can read again and again (in spanish)
his style, his diction, his imagination, no one comes close.
and there are imitators, (add me to the list )

he is a true master. a genius. his other works are true gems as well

Of Love and Other Demons.

his short stories..i could go on

but if could take just one book with me to the grave, to read throughout the eternity of the afterlife, that would be Cien Años de Soledad.

Yes, you are right: "One hundred years of solitude" is such a good book. Magic, I'd rather say.

I love his books and those of Isabelle as well.

And also the poems of Pablo Neruda are to die for!!!

I almost never read books anymore. So, I've decided that I'll go to the bookstore tomorrow and grab a few books with me. So this is really a helpful thread.

I used to read a lot and I really miss it. A book I've read several times is The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving. It's so quirky, strange and bizarre. I've actually started to read it again for like the thousand time!
