Favourite Top African and Black Models

So many beautiful faces! I wish the industry would wake up and recognize this type of beauty!

Liya, Yasmine, Alek, Jaunel and Naomi are my favourites.

You cant beat Naomi for me. I Love her and the way she walks...as a model she has made a name for herself..just in awe of her beauty too.

I know I'm exceptionally late, but Iman's site has footage from her appearance on Oprah a while back, with Naomi. It's so cute. Naomi is a big fan of Iman and interviews her. Also, they show good footage of the two back in their respective primes, including when Naomi fell on the runway.

It was a great show:flower:. It's funny b/c Iman was like 'your fall was cuter' which is true & a credit Naomi, since Iman feel during one of her 1st shows after running into a mirror(b/c she though it was another room)! I think it's cool to see them since they've been friends for like 18 years actually talk about their careers & impacts.

You know with the nostalgia over the supermodel era in full swing (which, I honestly have to give a lot of credit to Tyra's reality show; she's renewed the public's interest in the modeling industry; plus Janice's ramblings talking about her heyday, etc), and interviews with the old supers (Janice talking about modeling and Gia; Naomi interviewing Iman; Tyra interviewing Beverly), I want to see a set of specials or something about the old supers, and get them together for some interviews.

I think it would be a grand task to undertake. Something like an E! series, or Bravo, something like that. What do you think? :flower:

Well I think VH1 & both E! are huge credits, maybe more so than Tyra especially the talk show. Things like 'When Supermodels Ruled the World', 'Top 10 Most Fabulous Supermodels', 'I Love the 90s', 'Supermodels:E! True Hollywood'- E! also profiled several models for their own stories, 'E!: Revealed' with Naomi Campbell, 'Beyond Skin Deep:A&E', 'Top 10 Biggest Supermodels', really are more realistic and have footage and talks with the girls. Will this cause a rise in a new era, I don't think so, but it introduces the older girls.

Yeah but a lot of those specials came around after Top Model debuted a few years ago. Thankfully, Janice is her own promo machine, and she got specials and other shows to talk about her glory days; Gia's movie was made a bit earlier and caused some buzz; and a few of from that era -- like Naomi and Kate -- are still in the limelight, so it all worked together to cause this nostalgia over the original supermodels. I hope the true supers get more exposure. :flower:

Yeah, and I hope people don't just listen to those bragging few women and believe every word! Remember, if they're so great than others would be doing the bragging/remembering for them---No Names:innocent::lol:!

Here's another one that you may not know about...Her name is Gin Clarke...She modelled a lot for Gaultier (who's never been afraid to use ethnic models) in the 90's, even doing his first HC show & appearing in The Fifth Element, which he did the costumes for...

I cant think of any other designer she modelled for, and I cant find any of her old runway shots on firstview & style..maybe they dont "archive" their photos going that far back...But perhaps that's why I cant recall seeing much of her: her look may have fit the Gaultier aesthetic, but not many others'..

(sorry for no source, but Ive had them saved on my pc for a while now)..
