Favourite Top African and Black Models

 Hey,I love them all but this was about my absolute favs in that department. BTW,which of the three you listed were you talking about for the 'short lived' thing?!

Meet Sheila Johnson,early/mid 80s top blackmodel, scanned by me.
*She was the first blackwoman on a March Vogue US cover(remained the only until this year,Jennifer Hudson) and the first on a GQ cover(thats right, the very first happen in 1981,not 96)! Photo Credits:Patrick Demarchelier,P.Morris,Bill Wayward,Anthony Barboza

I was talkin about Michelle De swarte where did she dissappear? Meanwhile Karen Alexander looks quite alot like a Kenyan model called anita maina

Wait wait wait, Omi! I see the proof right before my eyes, but I've read so many times that Tyra Banks was the first Black woman on the cover of GQ!

Uhmm, hmm once again:rolleyes:! But you know better right, what did I tell you:p?! Besides I think you've seen this before, like with the whole Victoria's Secret thing,etc...jokes! Ah,one can never just believe everything they hear, especially from unreliable people. I just have to say I wonder what Sheila and Kara,Karen & Naomi think when they hear & read crap like that, you know knowing its really them who did something way before or even first. I don't know I'd be pretty shocked, possibly even annoyed:innocent: .

Wow, that's crazy. Tyra already didn't have very many "first" covers, but I guess now the only one is Sports Illustrated.

They probably meant the first black woman on the cover of GQ by herself.

I googled it and got this:
She was the first African-American woman to appear solo on the covers of GQ, Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue and the Victoria's Secret catalog

No,I've heard it from her too(also her mother if I'm not mistaken),just like that 'the first' not the first solo or wearing this or whatever...none of that! As someone from America I think she should at least act like she knows, but hey why not most people don't 'look' for themselves to figure things out anyway. My thing is if you're going to say those things over & over and also hear it without checking it out and correcting is sad,I just expect more. I mean those women helped to pave the way and shoudn't be forgotten just cause they aren't the chatty me types. As,for Sep's comment yes its SI only. But moving on.

Gorgeous! Beautiful Arabic name as well. And Poor Tyra, I swear she acts as if she's the Harriet Tubman of black models. She's the only black model I don't get.

I "get" her. Tyra's a bit too full of herself. how many black models have travelled the road she has and be so successful? But she should be a little more humble about it for the sake of her younger fans.

Oh,there's been tons of more successful blackmodels than herself some would be surprised. Outside of modeling however, she's found more of a niche. But again there also have been several who've been just as if not more successful than her outside of modeling, too. But at the end of the day there is no excuse for those claims. Even if one doesn't care about the previous group(s),they should at least know that their integrity is on the line when things come to light!
