Flip Flops

they are inappropriate...

-at work
-at school
-at any formal/semi-formal event what so ever
-on a job interview
-when meeting someone important or someone with whome you want to make a good impression
-any party that doesn't involve a keg

Also I was helping a professor interview kids to help with a research project, and I was shocked how many people wore flip flops to the interview. It just looks like you don't really care.

wow, im surprised at the uproar about it. when i heard people were mad that they wore flip flops i thought it was some sort of hoax. Surely people had more important things to care about than flip flops. but its true.

maybe its where im from (southern california) and that everyone here wears flipflops everywhere, but i dont see the problem with it. they were nice flip flops, and they went with their outfits. really, whats the difference between those and a pair of flats?

Are they still trendy? Im in love with my Havaianas and i wear them all the time-to school, out at night, everywhere! (it isnt too cold where i live) Nobody seems to mention flip flops ont his board anymore so i was wondering if they look tacky?? are they over?

flip flops will always be around. but unless you're going to the beach, or just louging around, they look kinda tasteless.

Basically its just lazy fashion

Part of the reason people aren't mentioning them right now might have to do with it being winter in a lot of areas.. I don't think flip flops are really a "trend" - I know I and many other people wear them constantly every summer. And they're not tacky as long as they don't make you look like a slob =) (and you don't wear them to formal events... I've been seing the White House flip-flop incident in some review-of-2005 news spots)

I'd say they're just lazy...no fashion involved. ;)

I don't think they look good, period. Leave beachwear to the beach.

Trendy? They might be, not that that means anything, looks-wise.

as long as there is summer, as long as there are toes, flip flops are here to stay. i love havaianas too. and birks.

^I stick with the cheap "handcrafted" ones from street vendors. no point in buying a name for something I get dirty easily.

Agreed.

I only wear flip flops when I'm feeling lazy / going swimming. Haha

I used to wear them a lot until I realized how casual/lazy they looked.

As a lazy student, I categorically support flip flops. I would suggest an upgrade to some mild gladiator-style strappy flats (ever seen Roman Holiday? mmhmm), but I have yet to find a decent pair. Sigh.

Depending on who you are, some people try to make flip-flops a year-round deal. How? Wear socks when it's cold, then put the flip-flops over them. I usually call it inexpensive style because they sell for so cheap, can be quite comfortable, and offers casual style.

Of course, the more formal name for sandals like these are "thong sandals." I don't know who makes a certain pair I'm thikning of, but a Pakistani classmate of mine wore these natural-colored, high-heeled, wedge sandals. Instead of the one little "V" holding up the shoe, there are two of them, and looked quite stylish. People are trying to dress up thong sandals, and they could very well make a nice statement with the dressier type of thong sandals. It may be winter here in America, but not really cold in some places, so a cute pair of sandals with something nice of yours would still work around this time of year.

I like flip flops, but can't really wear them cause it's winter here now. I would wear them all year long if I could. But yeah, they're very casual and I don't think that's bad as long as you're not wearing them to a black tie event.

I love FlipFlop`S
They will be trendy,for me;
You can wear them to everathing
(in the summer)

i love flipflops

im from socal, so they are mostly a year round thing. you can find them in stores any time. they are casual, i dont see the big deal. you can have a cute outfit and wear flip flops with them.

here is all about the reef sandals (and to a lesser extent the flojos). reefs are the most comfortable things ever. i hiked around europe this summer in them, and they were more comfortable than sneakers

the thick black ones are most common

I detest flip-flops, I have since I was a little girl.
I think people who wear them are lazy. I don't see why people don't wear a cute slip-on sandal instead.

The flip flop is a matter of preference and where you live plays a part. Where I live flip flops are the norm and they don't represent a sense of "lazy style" at all. It's just pretty warm all year round, they're usually cheap, and they come in many colors. How are people who wear flip flops lazy?
Maybe it's because I'm so used to seeing them it's just like wearing jeans;they always look good as long as they fit you. They are inappropriate in certain situations, obviously, but I don't see anything wrong with them. I just don't like wearing them.

where i am heaps of people my age wear havianas.. they're comfy and just easy to wear whenever .. unless of course its a formal event then its not really appropriate.. but yeh ppl have been wearing them for ages and will continue to wear them i think
I dont think its 'lazy' style either.. lots of people wear them in all different styles and colours and things

*lol we call the shoes "thongs" not flip-flops!! (haha not thongs as in the underwear though!!)

Well, if they are lazy, how do you describe wedge, platofrmed, and even platform wedge flip-flop sandals? Still lazy, or just a different twist?
