Can someone 160cm tall wear these? I have a long black silk skirt from Ann Dem which isn't too bad in summer, but I saw a beautiful wool one by isabel Marant, but I tried it on and looked 60 instantly,so I guess the answer is "no".

...well...
it's definitely not going to make you look like a young barbie-type....
but i kind of like looking 60-ish...
:innocent:...

i keep waiting for my hair to go greyish silver...
and giorgia o'keeffe is one of my style icons...
so i'm ok with it...
i never worry about it...

i always feel very 'adult' and 'dignified' when i wear one...
plus it's kind of great to just sweep into a room....

**and they are sooooooo comfy....

 ....^_^

Ooh yeah the 'sweeping' very Morticia Addams  I'd also like to add it's mainly Black and dark brown/red skirts I like...oh and dark greens. Not really too keen on light or marshmallowy colours :ninja:

OT: I Love mallen streaks when they come from the front of the hair with dark/black hair...I hope I get one ^_^

Want mine? :D I pay dearly to cover it  Family genes :judge:

On topic though, I imagine it's the cut that's important with these, not the length itself, no?

me too...^_^...
never heard 'mallen streak' before ...what is that from?...
i can guess what it is...
:P

and i agree on the colours...dark works best for the effect...
but i will also add some tones of blue and grey...maybe even plum or burgundy...

Georgia O'Keefe definitely the way to go! Minimal, dignified and interesting...

I must be bored, because I dug this out from one of the old "What are you wearing today? " threads. It's from this past summer, which wasn't at all hot in Holland...

I think I'll stick to this one floor length skirt

Though...Georgia O'Keefe as a style icon has a ring to it....

that is going to look really great this fall quirky...
and now you have some great shoes to wear with it...
how would that look with your new booties???...

:woot:...

I'm not really sure...Catherine Cookson wrote a book called the mallen streak...I'm not sure if it came from that, I've just always called it that.

Yeah I agree with the plums burgundys and greys too...generally anything dark.

QuirkyCool I think that looks lovely!!!

love it, though it's so difficult to wear in the winter here...they're not the easiest to walk in (of course it does make one feel terribly victorian to hold one's skirt whilst walking down the street), and when it rains (as it often does), they tend to drag in the puddles. unfortunately these unpleasant things outweigh the beauty of floor length skirts. :( I made a lovely floor length red one that I wore over the summer, though...following quirkycool's lead, here it is, dug up from an old what are you wearing today thread.

(and ta da! all this talk of long skirts in only dark colours, this is one of the only red things I own!)

mmm...
that's lovely utopia...

you guys have inspired me...maybe i will wear one today...
*i kind of like it when a skirt drags on the floor...
makes me feel rather decadent and fabulous...
*swish* *swish* *swish*lll
and i have no problem working the hem or lifting it over puddles, etc...

it's like carrying a bag on your arm as opposed to your shoulder...
it just takes a bit of getting used to....:D

**the beset is on a windy day or on an outdoor train platform when the skirt blows around your legs...

**so NEW GOTHIC...
very anna karenina.......

But with a happy ending, of course!:flower:

By the way, I :woot: long skirts. They perfectly fit my 181cm ...:D

I think long skirts do not fit every posture. They can make you look smaller when you are already not so long or longer when you already are long. Not to mention that they can make you look bigger when you aren't very tiny either. It is not always the case, because it heavily depends on what kind of long skirt you are wearing, looking at the fabric, the cut and even the colour.

One tip for the whole world to know, please do not wear floor length jeans skirts, or any denim skirt below the knee for that matter :yuk:

LOL...love the way you put that...I :woot: long skirts too! They've also been my style staple since highschool...love the etherial/victorian/hippie look... :P

*long chiffon skirts flying around, even in winter, with leggings and boots and a long scarf...
*super-long pleated skirts...
*long linen wrap skirts...
*floor-length cotton dresses worn baba-cool casually...

...the list goes on..

I just love how they were done at Rochas

same here, i believe Theyskens did the best long lengths for ss06, also liked what jpg did for Hermes.
personally i've worn so many ankle lenghs fr a decade until up to three years ago that i can't see me going back there but still, its a definite 'trend'.
it could actually evolve to mainstream but its not too easy to sell them to mass market, mainly cause some 'shorter' girls dont feel too comfortable wearing them...

excellent trend watching -as usual- miss kimkhuu :flower:

This is so not me..
But if someone can pull it off well, it usually looks lovely..:flower: (cough, utopia softgrey and quirky)

Very true... To be honest, I think I finally made up my mind: floor lenght skirts aren't really for me... They're too inconvenient for my lifestyle, I'd fall down at least 10 times a day if I wore floor lenght skirts!
