This is a video I posted up on my blog a couple of weeks ago as I want to challenge magazines, fashion related television shows, etc to promote non-standard sized designers

Do you think this will ever happen? My guess is, sadly, no :(

they already do this ...
have you not seen the size and age issues of vogue...?
and lucky does it regularly....

the bottom line is that the 'standard' is such for an obvious reason..
MOST people are that size...

so magazines, designers, etc...
have an obligation to appeal to the widest audience possible..
so the folks who are in the monority will have less specific coverage...
this is for obvious business reasons...

it's not some random decision or some bizarre form of discrimination...
i think you have to understand and accept that dear...

:P

i also believe your premise that designers who design specifically for markets which are not 'standard' size should not be seen as 'niche' is flawed ...

because the fact that they are targeted to a market which is the minority automatically makes them niche...since it is not a mass market...but a smaller or 'niche' market...

so in fact---they MUST be considered niche in order to be accurate....

The Vogue body issue happens once a year.

I know a couple of people who design clothes specifically for petite women (the clothes are technically for 5'4" or shorter, but they can also fit women up to 5'7" (which means it fits most women)), but have had some difficulty getting boutiques to sell them, especially when they emphasize that it is for petites. Except for special issues, magazines are not likely to profile them.

Please check out Tamiece and House of Hsueh.

I really hope that these girls will get more mainstream media profile some day because I think they can appeal to a wide audience more than so-called mainstream designers.

As for petites being a "niche" market, if more than 60% in America of women can wear petites, even if they're over 5'4", how is it "niche"? Also, they usually say that the average woman in America is 5'4" (this height relatively the same in most western nations. With the exception of the Netherlands, the average female height ranges from 5'3" to 5'6") in most western and Asian countries. This means that most women can wear petite sizes in one way or another.
