Gabriela Hearst F/W 2021.22 New York

I swear to gosh I got the 10th shirt jacket in this collection from H&M trend last fall and the fabric is from an Italian mill. Almost identical.

She doing a better job at being a socialite than being a designer.

This collection doesn't have an identity that would be strong enough. It literally feels like a rejected, more neutral Sies Marjan show. It's still nice and wearable, but in the sea of all the Nanushkas and Proenzas it doesn't stand out.

When it comes to her Chloé debut, well, there's an interview for WWD where Gabriela says that her namesake brand is like Athena and her Chloé is like Aphrodite. Whatever that means... But it's suspicious that she claims designing for Chloé is much easier.

I couldn't not post Cathy's scathing review of this show...

All one needs to know about Hearst’s collection was that her muse was a nun from the Dark Ages — one Hildegard of Bingen. That was quite a reach in order to come up with a plain, cream-colored cape and some wallflower dresses. Or, better yet, you can look at Maria Grazia Chiuri’s sublime haute couture collection for Dior, from January, with its deeply felt view of European history and femininity. Hearst’s collection, which included many coats over long knitted things, was one of the stodgiest I can remember in awhile.
