quick translation of interview from WWD japan... its not word for word because the text is too small to read in places.
Interviewer: So what do you think about Japan?
Gemma: It's so much fun. Everyone's so nice and the food is really good. This morning i got up early and went to the tsukiji (fish) market, and the sushi i had there was the best ive ever had! I bought some stuff for making sushi for me to take home with me. i often eat japanese food in my house in new york cuz its so healthy.
I: Yesterday you had a lot of work (interviews, photoshoots). How did it go?
G: i'm really used to all that stuff now i think. but it was really funny how some of the journalists were asking what i would think about getting a japanese boyfriend. I dont really get many chances to come to japan so i think it would be hard to meet anyone.
Then yesterday on the shoot for the show "a lady's lunch" hashino emi was being really funny and everyone was having fun so i was able to relax. then we went to christian dior and tried on different outfits.
I: what got you into modeling in the first place?
G: Ever since i was little, i was really active. i went to acting school and i loved dressing up before going out. I was scouted back home so that's how i got into the industry, and i think i have eased into it pretty well.
I: whats the best thing about being a model?
G: Traveling around the world, definitely. It's really great to be able to see so many cities outside of australia because of all the fashion shows and photo shoots.
I: Was there a F/W 05-06 collection that left an impression on you?
G:"marc jacobs" (?????wow), "prada", "balenciaga"...among many others. This is my 5th season doing shows, and now im finally able to relax and not be so nervous.
I: Was there a photoshoot recently that you had fun doing?
G:I did a photoshoot in louisiana with steven meisel recently. he seems to be able to tell how im feeling so i can be cool and calm and so the shoot was fun.
I: after this, i hear you're going to go to kamakura since you have some free time? (kamakura is about an hour or so south of tokyo- there are a lot of temples and shrines there)
G:yeah! i wanna take this chance to see the many sides of japan! I'm really looking forward to it, and im gonna take a lot of pictures! next time i come i'll show them to you!
