I don't think this has been posted, but i can't remember for sure. Its stunning though...

quick translation of interview from WWD japan... its not word for word because the text is too small to read in places.

Interviewer: So what do you think about Japan?
Gemma: It's so much fun. Everyone's so nice and the food is really good. This morning i got up early and went to the tsukiji (fish) market, and the sushi i had there was the best ive ever had! I bought some stuff for making sushi for me to take home with me. i often eat japanese food in my house in new york cuz its so healthy.

I: Yesterday you had a lot of work (interviews, photoshoots). How did it go?
G: i'm really used to all that stuff now i think. but it was really funny how some of the journalists were asking what i would think about getting a japanese boyfriend. I dont really get many chances to come to japan so i think it would be hard to meet anyone.
Then yesterday on the shoot for the show "a lady's lunch" hashino emi was being really funny and everyone was having fun so i was able to relax. then we went to christian dior and tried on different outfits.

I: what got you into modeling in the first place?
G: Ever since i was little, i was really active. i went to acting school and i loved dressing up before going out. I was scouted back home so that's how i got into the industry, and i think i have eased into it pretty well.

I: whats the best thing about being a model?
G: Traveling around the world, definitely. It's really great to be able to see so many cities outside of australia because of all the fashion shows and photo shoots.

I: Was there a F/W 05-06 collection that left an impression on you?
G:"marc jacobs" (?????wow), "prada", "balenciaga"...among many others. This is my 5th season doing shows, and now im finally able to relax and not be so nervous.

I: Was there a photoshoot recently that you had fun doing?
G:I did a photoshoot in louisiana with steven meisel recently. he seems to be able to tell how im feeling so i can be cool and calm and so the shoot was fun.

I: after this, i hear you're going to go to kamakura since you have some free time? (kamakura is about an hour or so south of tokyo- there are a lot of temples and shrines there)
G:yeah! i wanna take this chance to see the many sides of japan! I'm really looking forward to it, and im gonna take a lot of pictures! next time i come i'll show them to you!

aww, mishahoi, thanks for the translation! she sounds so cute! I'm glad someone was around to translate it...my Japanese has gone down the toilet since I haven't studied it for 5 years! Haha. I could've dragged my friend who's a Japanese major to translate it...except I don't think he would be too keen on translating a fashion article - the man is not a huge fashion nut. lol.

awww cute
i love her personality....
thanks for translating mishahoi

im not sure whether it's been posted...
but i got a few (VERY BAD..) phonecamera pix of the "Pedder" ads (some shoe brand)....found them in some magazine at the hairdressers. I was so embarassed to take photo but i just HAD to...

will scan later!!

I :heart::heart: Gemma! She seems to have the sweetest and most wonderful and natural personality that really syncs with her look!

they're done well....love the lighting!!
but i think testino is starting to run out of ideas though, in general...dont you?

anyway. i prefer gemma with paler skin~ the tan doesnt suit her IMO

^ wrong thread - I think you'd be better off asking that in the Handbags forum...

i love her as a model like HEAPS but I can't wait till she becomes an actress:)

I think I read somewhere that models like Gemma make around $10,000 to $20,000 per show :woot: My sister makes that much in one year and she's an accountant!! (a first year accountant, but nonetheless, she has a bachelors). Lord, I wonder if Gemma realizes that she's only 17 and already making more in one day than some people will make in a year. Boggles the mind  Lucky little thing.
Then again, I guess you have to take into account that she has to pay her agency, ect. and the fact that she has a place in NY which, God knows, costs a fortune. Still, in the end.....wow...

BTW, kind of off topic, but do you think she has to pay taxes? (hehe, I have taxes on the brain....just sent mine in a few days ago....ten minutes till midnight and I was hauling my *** into the local Post Office.... )

I don't think so - she's a minor and isn't (at least I think she isn't) a resident of the US (where I guess she spends most of her time) and probably home in Australia enough to constitute residency? (I think you have to live in your home country for more than 3 months straight to be considered a resident?) lol, that was a terrible job of explaining, but basically I suppose if she's under 18 she doesn't have to pay taxes :flower:

but basically I suppose if she's under 18 she doesn't have to pay taxes

I think no matter what your age, you pay taxes (if you make enough to actually be taxed) but you have a point with the residency thing.....I dunno, do Aussies get taxed? (I'm ignorant, I apologize!)

Well she isn't an American citizen and, like VainJane said, you have to make a certain amount of money(she makes well over that amount though) to pay. But I'm sure there are taxes(federal and state-New York) taken out of the individual paychecks she gets in America. And she most likely pays Australian taxes.

i thought she gets taxed?! oh well...
all i know is that half the rich and famous in australia eventually move over to usa because the tax is a LOT lower!!

Gemma likely has to pay taxes, as it would be tax evasion if she held a job (yes, even modelling) and didn't pay taxes. Someone that works part time somewhere still has to pay taxes on their earnings, so the assumption would be that Gemma, too, has to pay taxes.

she does look cute and she is beautifull but something annoys me about her that she is very very skinny.
I don't know if it is very healthy .. it makes girls a reason for not eating - but i won't do it again-

 hmm, jealous much? look, Gemma is tiny and naturally so. Im built just like her, im 5'10 and weigh 118lbs. Im so tired of girls like you pissing over skinny people. Some girls are just naturally tiny. Its how we are built. Gemma cant force a girl to go days without eating just like a picture of a fat girl wont make me scarf down a pizza. We are in charge of our ownselves. Stop trying to place blame on poor Gemma  , why should she be ashamed of her body?

LOL you know the koala pic, I'VE BEEN THERE and i've had my pic taken same as gemma in the same spot :woot: i, of course, don't look as good as gemma though ;)
