Gemma would also have to do a very commercial campaign to be in the line of Kate's career. Many people buy Calvin Klein and know his ads, so mainstream really got to know Kate's image when she worked for them. Working for high fashion companies may be more prestigious, but if you want the mainstream to know you, a commercial line like that would help.

Yea and I'm guessing that Obession ad was supposed to be sexy but it got such negative responses saying it was a bit "pedophilic", which I kind of agree with. She really is just the girl of the moment but a great model nontheless.

I agree with some points here. I think it is the "blank slate" girls who get the most, at least in runway, work. Gemma is wonderful in eds, but can be very blank on the runway. I saw a modeling show once and it said that any girl who distracts from the clothes (by having too beautiful a face or whatever) has failed at her job. That is very true! I think that's why a lot of the traditional beauties go on to become more commercial or swimsuit models, because designers won't hire them because people will be looking at the model and not the clothes. Anyway, I also agreed that Gemma doesn't have much sex appeal. But of course, as she ages that will change. I think top models need to be both beautiful and sexy.

Daria is more of a face of the new generation. Daria's face has more soul and warmth and more emotions. Gemma's insect-like features reeks of coldness and un-human.

the only thing the designer likes in her because she makes the clothes look good with her super - plain face. Gorgeous models with big personality like Lima, Balti and the rest pulls the attention away from the designs and draws the eyes towards their faces. That's why the designers united in the 90's and stop the supermodel power. Supermodels who became bigger than the designers. The designers themselves stopped this and thats why we have Kate, Gemma

Even if Gemma has an offbeat beauty, it is still beauty. Daria looks like squirrel, Gemma looks like a doll. And I'm sorry, but dolls reek beauty to me.

A real lover of all things model and fashion could see the 'appeal' in everything. I can see why people like Daria, but I don't care so much for her myself. As for the Lima/Balti thing, Victoria's Secret models have a place in the fashion world, but such obvious beauty should stay mainstream. If a designer has a 'thoughtful' collection, he/she is going to want their model to reflect that. And all that Adriana Lima reflects to me is Boobs, Teeth, and Hormones.

Gemma is still early in her career with all her high fashion work, time will tell if she will become "another" kate. As she gets older she will look different, and she will have more power to do more commercial campaigns. if she sticks to the work shes getting now, she will be big in the years to come.

Hmmm....good point. I did see some SA in the French Vogue cover and ed by Testino earlier this year. Lolita style, just like Kate's CK stuff. But the appeal was not as strong as Kate's - to my eyes anyway.

but that was the 90s when it was in flow and we are in a new era where things aren't sexed up as then. Even though i never saw kate as sexy

I have a feeling people are going to get tired of the 'doll' look really soon

and people got tired of the waif look too. I'm sure gemma can change with the times just like kate.

ok i agree gemma will be nothing like kate she not a party girl or a britrock chick but i think she could be a new type of 'figure' that would intrest the public but i dont thihnk she could get to the high status like kate is at.

i think she could make it if she carries on the way shes going
