Two weeks ago Nicole Kidman's publicist, Wendy Day, admitted she was a little anxious about leaving Sydney for the Christmas break while her star client was still in town.
Her anxiety stemmed from her deep-rooted suspicion of Sydney's paparazzi, especially Jamie Fawcett who admits to having had a long and colourful relationship with Kidman.
Judging by the media reports that said Fawcett had ruined Kidman's reunion with her husband, Keith Urban, on the South Coast, Day's fears were realised. Fawcett denies he ruined anyone's holiday, saying he only chases the stars who are "the most newsworthy on the day … and she was".
While Kidman employed decoy cars, publicists, security guards and endured the constant cat-and-mouse chase with snappers, other stars in Sydney have a much calmer time.
Fawcett said Cate Blanchett was equally successful as an actor, yet was not as "newsworthy" as Kidman.
"We often photograph her shopping with the kids … It's always pretty calm because she doesn't have any of the bullsh*t around her - the security guards, the drivers, the publicists," Fawcett said.
Similarly Rachel Griffiths, Toni Collette and Rose Byrne have all been in town over Christmas, yet none of them emerged at the centre of a paparazzi storm.
When a Sydney snapper, Peter Carrette, caught Elle Macpherson holidaying with the former Sydney model Jules Revelle on the island of Mustique, she remained calm, let him get the shots and then carried on with her holiday without any fuss.
Even one of the world's top supermodels, Gemma Ward, who is in Sydney to shoot a film, has escaped virtually unscathed by the paps. Similarly,Kylie Minogue managed to spend a month in Australia without being photographed outside of her publicity and concert performances. Nor were there any candid snaps of U2 or Robbie Williams.

i know, when i look at photos of her when she was like around the age of 16, her eyes were so much bigger and her chin was much narrower, just so much more delicate. she looks so innocent.. now her face is so unappealing to me.

^^ I don't know. I think, in those two pictures, she looks basically the same. I think she's just grown into her face and we've become much more accustomed to her looks especially with similar faces out there now like Sasha. Before when Gemma was just starting out she was very differant looking because we hadn't seen that kinda of baby doll face before. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.
On another note I wonder if Gemma will be skipping the fall shows in New York because she'll be filming the Black Balloon??? Does anyone know? I think castings start this week in nyc...

^ I agree re Gemma's look . The second photo I think is just an unflattering photo The makeup lighting etc is a bit harsh especially compared to other photos from last season.. Compare that to Chanel (pic from style.com) where i think she does still looks more inncocent and girly
But hey its all subjective
And re New York Fashion Week- I hope we see here there I read somewhere she no longer needs to go to castings.. I think it will depend on her availability... so fingers crossed
