Filming begins for WA's Gemma

Perth-born supermodel Gemma Ward makes her film debut today when production on Black Balloon begins in NSW.

Ward, 19, will play Jackie, the girlfriend of lead character Thomas, played by Rhys Wakefield. The film deals with the challenges Thomas and Jackie face living with Thomas's brother's autism. The role of Thomas's mother will be played by celebrated Australian actor Toni Collette.
Directed by Elissa Downs, Black Balloon is produced by Tristram Miall who was responsible for Aussie silver screen classics such as Strictly Ballroom and Looking for Alibrandi.
Ward, who two years ago became the youngest model to appear on then cover of Vogue, has also already secured a role in upcoming American horror flick, The Strangers, alongside Liv Tyler.

^ I disagree completely. The makeup is very light and flattering to her features I think. If they had put an overabundance of makeup on her face, then I would have a problem, but they didn't go overboard.

The problem I do have with the ad is that she's overairbrushed, and in that sense, yes she looks plastic. But I don't think that has to do with the makeup itself.

I agree with OriginalSin. It's one of the most extreme examples of airbrushing I've seen. Because of that Gemma doesn't look real. The person responsible should go back to art school!
