CLEO March 2008
My World in 21 Hours - Gemma Ward
Even on a rare "day off" in her adopted home of New York, this jet setting Aussie supermodel still finds it hard to sit still for long.
9am
I'm usually an early riser, but not today, because I was in Spain a couple of days ago and I'm still a bit jetlagged. I wake up and have some coffee then get breakfast.
9.30am
I exercise when I can. I have a walk down the bottom of Manhattan and the West Side Highway and East River, down through Battery Park. I ride my bicycle in the summer time - it's always great riding up to Central Park.
11am
My mum's here at the moment, so she heads out with me for a few appointments. First we go to meet Fabien Baron, who's a renowned creative director, then we have a meeting about doing a fragrance.
1.30pm
The start of a long discussion with my architect. I just got a place in the East Village and I'm renovating it, so I've spent hours going over tiles, sinks, taps ad windows. It's great, though. I love doing it. That's part of the reason my mum's in town at the moment. She's helping me with the kitchen design because she's hoping to cook there - telling me which appliances are which and where drawers should go. I'm not really a cooking person and never have been. My mum and my sister are incredible chefs; every time I've tried to cook it's just failed in comparison. In New York it's so easy to go out and eat. Plus I travel so much, so if I cook, I end up having things that just don't last in the fridge.
3pm
I'm still with the architect and running late! Today has been such a busy day. I'm supposed to be doing phone interviews with Australian journalists right now.
4.15pm
I head home to have a very late lunch, then start doing interviews just after 5pm.
5.40pm
I'm connected through the operator for my chat with CLEO about my film
The Black Balloon. I play the role of Jackie. Part of the reason I chose this film was because I fell in love with her. She's the funniest, wackiest but most sensitive girl, has gone through a lot in her life at a young age and manages to have such a great outlook. I saw a lot of myself in her.
7pm
Publicity finished. I have to pack because I'm getting picked up at 4am to go to Shanghai. It sounds hectic, but I'm used to traveling to three places in one week, shooting for two days, then going to another group of people and filming for another few days
8.30pm
Usually I'd be hanging out with my friends. I have a terrific group here and we do lots of random fun things. New York has so much to offer. We recently did a life drawing class, at Mum's suggestion actually. But I'm now off to bed for tomorrow's early start.
4am
The airport transfer arrives for my tip to china. My mum's tagging along with me, which will be great.
