Gemma Ward

thank you for these vids, some may find them redundant, me, i was delighted to revisit the time she was the standout girl at practically every show, she glowed.
but it bugs (no pun) me a bit that she's credited with creating the vogue for baby-faced 'aliens' like Vlada Roslyakova, Heather Marks, Lily Cole, Lisa Cant, and Jessica Stam. Chronologically it doesn't hold up, all these girls were working already b4 gems came along, and Vlada arrived pretty much the same time and would have made it on her own merits—and speaking for myself, I don't think they look alike much. Sasha's also mentioned in this connection—sorry, that's just whack. Sasha's has as unique a look as Gemma—and it's part of what makes both of them both special.
Finally, I doubt G. is going to return to modeling, her baby-doll look around 2008 has an expiration date. Acting's another matter, I do look forward to seeing her do more of that.;)

Yeah, not only were all those girls working before Gemma, but as far back as the 70's people like Penelope Tree had started the "alien"/"martian" look, so while I don't mean to belittle Gemma's career I don't think we can credit her with creating that particular look.

A couple of absolutely GORGEOUS behind-the-scene pics of the 2008 pirelli calender shoot that I'm sure have never been posted^_^

Yes, they were working prior to Gemma coming along, though Gemma was the precipitating model that thrust the alien baby doll look into a full on trend in modelling, and grouped all the similar girls together.

thanks to the girls keeping this thread alive with photos, i guess old gemma is better than no gemma :/

Those girls might have been working before Gemma, BUT...Gemma was the first big model of the alien/babydoll look, she was unstoppable, then the other girls that had the same look of hers, also got big in the business. She didn't stop working because the "babydoll" look expired, but she stopped for her own reasons.

^EXACTLY^_^

I always thought Gemma got all the credit for starting the look because she was the sensation:crush:. She literally was the epitome of a alien/baby doll model whereas all of the other girls imo never looked like anything of the sort (ie. Lisa Cant, Lily Donaldson) or were either one or the other.

But I do disagree with whomever said that her look was "over" or "dated":ermm:.. Imo, beauty is beauty & if she wanted to make a comeback, she could:clap:

^ i agree, if she wanted to she could take the industry by storm. Although she has a trademark look, she is very versatile and hard working
