Quite a lenghty interview, from january.
They found your luggage?
This morning, thank God. I'm leaving tomorrow anyway, it wasn't going to help, was it? Besides, sometimes I ask myself what's the use of travelling with luggage, since they always loose it. It's great to have my sister, so I can borrow her clothes. Until my bags arrived, I used the same jeans I used on the plane and borrowed two dresses from her.
How is your relationship with airports?
To tell you the truth, I'm not the biggest fan. I hate it. But every job has it's pleasant and unpleasant side. But I'll tell you: I hate traveling. Ever since I became a model, I'm always traveling. Going, coming, never staying in places.
Recently, the topmodels Luciana Curtis and Marcelle Bittar spoke about their flight issues and told the press they recurr to tranquilizers to sleep on planes. What's your ritual?
I always take my own blanket. I make the plane my home. I take Aromatherapy oil - lavender, peace and calming - and put it on the plane's pillow. People must think I'm crazy, I make a little home on board. I usually have dinner, read, listen to my iPod and sleep a lot.
What other rituals does Gisele has?
I'm trying to give more space to my, say, spiritual life. We live in a materialist world and rush so much it's easy to forget about ourselves, you know? You do, do, do and when you see, you're already loosing yourself from yourself. When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is to thank for being well, for being here, for being alive. Even if it's 5 am, on snow, photographing naked. I could wake up and go, "Come on, I'm naked, cold and have cramps", but I don't. I thank for what I am, for working with what I like. It doesnt matter what happens, I know I can turn that little key and transform whatever it is into something positive. That's one thing I learned with meditation. When you meditate, your mind becomes calmer, more tranquil, with better use of time. I'd like to live in a state of meditation, but until I get there, I have 15 or 20 minutes dedicated to it every day. Yoga is also something I do as often as I can. It's very important to take care of the mind and body, to stay sane in this madness.
Do you have a guru to help you?
No. I have a wonderful teacher of hata-yoga, a more meditative modality, which works breathing a lot. By the way, yoga was invented to get to a more meditative state, closer to open your chakras. But she isn't a guru, she's just a teacher. I read a lot, though. I love Osho, have read many books by him, all very good. I like Alan Kardec a lot, too. I'm now reading "Ask and it's given - Learning to manifest your desires", by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I love reading, literature is a a gift. What you get from books, you don't get anywhere else.
Have you ever done psychoanalyzes?
No. Books are my therapy. Everytime I need light in my life, a book comes up. A friend gives it to me, or I find it strolling in the airport. When I like the message, I underline the important parts and always reread it. Like this [she reads a bit from her current book]: "The greatest gift you can give someone else is your own happiness, which is truly who you are, and when you are in a connection state, anything and anyone whom you desire as an attention object benefits from it". Isn't it beautiful? It gives me great strenght. I believe we come here to learn and we are all spirits, energy. This books only reafirm that, because every now and then you live life, get busy, crazy and your head gets so filled, you know? And you lose your essence. This books give me a sense of direction. A bigger strenght.
Can we take a picture of you reading the book?
Sure. [Her sister/manager and the press people sinalize time is running out]. I really speak a lot.
Who takes care of your money? How is Gisele, the business woman?
Oh, business woman Gisele really tries. She has made a lot of mistakes in that sense and nowadays, who takes care of the money is my financial manager. My family has never been envolved with my career, or my money. Although my sister is, now, my agent, thank God. It's my financial manager and me who take care of everything. But I'll tell you something, I think it's absurd how people and the midia make up things about me. If I earned as much as they say, I'd have stopped working. I don't go out as often. I read, stay at home, walk my dogs. Maybe they make up so much because I'm really boring.
Talking about making up, is it true you spent the New Year meditating, without going out?
Yes, it is. I spent the réveillon quiet, with my friends. It was a cool experience, because I do silent days, three or four days of absolute silence, every six months.
What do you mean? You stay without speaking anything at all?
Yes, I learned I can. I talk nonstop and the first time I did it, I thought I wouldn't make it. But I've never been so in touch with myself. When you speak, your voice pollutes your thoughts, you know? I've done it a couple of months back and did it again on January 1st. I was in Santa Catarina [South of Brazil] with friends and we were totally silent. It was incredible.
What about the rumours of panic syndrome? Made up, too?
I never had panic syndrome. What I did have was an anxiety crises, flying to Spain in a tiny, four-place, plane, in middle of a torrential storm. It was despairing and after that I spent a couple of days with claustrophobia. I saw some doctors and - you how the US is, right - anything can be solved with pills. But I thought "I`m not getting rid of a problem to get filled with pills and get another one", so I began doing yoga again, more intensely. And I cured myself without medication.
