translated by Fabidivina @ giselefan.orgQ- Do you know the sex of the baby? G- We decided not to know the sex. Only when the baby is born we’ll know, in december. Until there, is surprise. I want to feel the moment and find out at the right moment.
Q- In the following months you’ll be between USA and Brazil?
G- I’ll continue my travels but my home is in Boston.
Q- Is Tom spoiling you too much?
G- He is wonderful.
Q- How you’re doing with food?
G- I’m trying to eat the most healthily way as possible.
Q- How did you react when UN named you Ambassador For Environment?
G- I feel flattered. I’ve been supporting projects and talking about environmental issues in my site and interviews for some time. UN saw it and invited me to support them. I feel honored to be part of this movement for a better world. I hope to bring more attention for important issues through the UNEP’s programs. It’s essential people push their leaders to take action.
Q- How your sandals and environmentalism work together?
G- I’ve to thank Grendene for it. A porcentage of the sandals sells goes to certain projects. In the last campaigns these projects have been supported: Y Ikatu Xingu, De Olho Nos Mananciais, Nascentes do Brasil and Florestas do Futuro. In the next campaign the theme will be the ocean so we chose the TAMAR project because they work with sea turttles. The TAMAR project have being doing research, saving and rehabilitating sea turttles for 30 years. With our help more than 1 million turttles will go back to the sea. The constant matter behind these campaigns is the conservation of water. The support isn’t just financial it also brings attention to these projects.
Q- How started your connection with environmentalism?
G- I grow up in a small town with lots and lots of nature everywhere perhaps because of it I give so much value to nature. In the past people didn’t think a lot, now because of the constant natural disasters people are more conscious, we’re understanding how much important is to try to be in harmony with nature. Some years ago I visited a village of the Xingu tribe they told me how they suffer because of polluted water and defore*station, because they’re Indians (Native Americans) they live in nature so they feel more the changes than us people who live in cities. After listening to their complains, I saw the big problem. I decided to use my image to give light to environmental issues.
Q- Are you worried about your children’s generation?
G- I’m not just worried about the future, the present is worth worry too. We are already seeing and suffering with natural problems in the future perhaps it can be much worse if we don’t take action now.
Q- Do you think the fashion business can help the cause?
G- Yes. Today fashion is everywhere and reach everyone, it’s an important tool to spread messages.
