I was doing Christmas shopping the other day, and I was at Novo shoe store, and a group of girls were pointing at Gisele's poster and saying, "omg, Gisele is so beautiful!", "I want her legs", "Gisele, Gisele, Gisele," the entire time I was there, they were staring at the poster. It always surprises me when a models name is mentioned in the general public over here.

I love the ed in #2576. The Supermodel status I can only reserve for the early 90's girls. Sorry, Gisele, you are not one of them, even if you've maintained 10+ years of work and were responsible for the Brazilian 'heat wave' in fashion...you were not a supermodel.

^ that's actually relative... some people consider that the supermodels' class was represented only by claudia, linda, naomi, stephanie and christy. personally, I would put Kate, Amber, Stella, Shalom, Carolyn Murphy and other great names, including Gisele. but I guess that's a matter of "power" and Gisele wasn't as powerful as them. but if you analyse a bit more, gisele's got even a rolling stone cover, which isn't very common... but then this whole "who's an icon or not" discussion would start.

I have a similar story. There was a poster in my town of her for Calzedonia and there was one tourist and she took a photo by that poster saying like: "Oh my God, it's Gisele! She's gorgeous and the fact that she is from Brazil makes her even more beautiful! "

^and additional fact that I consider when talking about supermodels is that people who don´t care/know about fashion know who they are. Did we talk about it on this thread? I always say: ask a family member who´s not interested in fashion if they know who Claudia, Cindy, Kate, Gisele, Linda, Naomi, Christy... are, they will probably know. But ask them if they know who Daria or Sasha or any of the "new" top models are and they probably won´t have any idea...

I think Gisele is often called the "last supermodel" because today in this modeling world (which can't even be compared to the 90's girls) she is the closest thing to them, imo. In terms of fame and range of career (acting,business woman,high fashion,commercial,covers,dates the movie star ala cindy crawford,etc...) she has conquered all aspects of supermodeldom, lol. You can't just sit there and model for Vogue after Vogue and expect to become a supermodel. Gisele in my opinion is a very smart woman for how her career turned out. She played all her cards right.
