okay girls and boys.
sorry to annoy you but i am sooo confused as to how the new and the old classic compare. i know the newer ones with that metal logo hardware but apparently reading through all posts there is a newer version of the actual first issued bag.
can anyone pls post pics of the 2 together to compare ?
that would be great

yeah it's a totally confusing subject and will be discussed in the forthcoming blog.

but, to set the record straight. the ORIGINAL & first nightingale was in fall '06 and had handles that were chains wrapped in coiled leather that almost looks like the curly cord on telephones.

and the bag was first called the "chiguire" (named for the world's largest rodent) before it was renamed nightingale in spring of 07.

that same season there was another version of this bag that had the normal handle with piping like nearly all of the nightingale models now, but the bottom of the handles DID NOT have the embossed logo. THAT'S how you know that you have a true first original nightingale. anything else with the g's embossed is from spring 07 onwards. but this applies to black leather only because there was a metallic champagne colour this season that did have the g's embossed (like the chain handle bag also does--pic below)

^ notice the texture of the leather & the logoless handle. this is the version that vanessa traina has.

and also the "classic" nightingale/chiguire has the padded shoulder strap that can zip open. the newer ones just have a thin strap with no zipper or padding.

why is it that some of these bags seem to have the more textured leather, BUT also the thicker/zipper strap? Fakes? I must say I prefer the newer leather, but the original strap and hardware style. Hmmmm.

That is great Alejando, many thanks! For S/S 08 they are not doing the Nightingale for women, but they have a hybrid version for men, look at givenchy.com

I saw the first bag you posted with chains in Selfridges right after I got my original Nightingale, but the Chains looked very cheap IRL not heavy, but very light and..um.. plastic-y there was also an eel Nightingale.
Btw Vanessa Traina has the ostrich one, non?

^ no theirs are defintiely the original all leather without the logo embossing on the handle. the bag uses a lot of skin so there's always going to be a lot of colour variation. in other pics of her with it you can tell it's definitely all calf skin.

they're not promoting the classic nightingale anymore in the look books (s/s 08), but i'm pretty sure it will still be made as long as barneys continues to demand it.

the new versions of the nightingale are .....

they look really cheap imo

the handles on the real one's are really, really short that is a good give-away, but feel free to PM if you are wondering about Givenchy bags as I have one I will try and help.

i don't think the handles on the replica are any different from the ones on the authentic maxi. it looks the same length to me.

Does anyone know if there were versions of Nightingales that were pebbled leather with two shoulder straps - one a longer canvas/leather strap and the other a shorter all leather strap? The hardware is gunmetal. Thank you!
