Givenchy F/W 2023.24 Paris

Those shoulders on the coats in 1-6 and 12....I'm calling it, 'stupid oversized 80s-style shoulder' is going to be the defining look of late 2010s/early-mid 2020s style, not unlike the later 1980s and early 90s.

This isn't as bad as his usual but it actually causes me pain to look at Riccardo's Givenchy from even just 10-15 years ago and then see it coming to.....this.

Looks like those ugly sporty highstreet-ish items didn't save its sales.

It is not, the brand is not even mentioned in the reports of LVMH. Their menswear has been selling better than womenswear for years now, it was like that even during the tenure of Clare Waight Keller. Generally, they may scale the brand down sooner than later because of the results.

Well…I guess at least I’m thankful to this show for introducing me to the song “Walk Thru Water” by Overmono.

It’s somewhat of an improvement from his previous collections, but that is a depressingly low bar so that doesn’t mean it’s good. There remains no real identity or originality to these clothes: we’ve seen all of this in various high fashion brands from the last few years. Plus, the devil is in the details, and the fit and execution of many of these looks are shockingly sloppy and just really not luxurious-looking.

Williams’ tenure is so painful. He’s so clearly a follower and not a leader, which is a shame for a house like Givenchy, that was so buzzy and exciting and really felt like a driving force of the high fashion conversation for so many years.
