so many words are thrown about and it is assumed that we all mean the same thing and that the meaning is understsood...

but ...
of late...
i have had several incidents where i have used the term GLAM to describe what i was looking for and when i received the garment sent by the showroom...it was decidedly NOT what i had in mind...:ninja:...

obviously something had gotten 'lost in translation'...so to speak...

so my question to YOU is....
what does the word GLAM mean to YOU!!!...
post a pic if it helps...

 :flower:

Erm sometimes I say it in jest 'ooh that's glam' i.e 'are you sure you're not a drag queen?' but I find saying 'glamorous' gives more sophistication to it, to me it means very luxurious looking, womanly looking, looking 'made up' but not tarty... well groomed.

Then again ( this is harder to answer than I first anticipated) my mother used to often use 'glamourous' as a term for well kept older women, *insert imagery of slightly coiffed hair, smell of Chanel No.5, large pearl earrings*

 ! soft i like all these new threads you've been starting recently !

ok. so 'glam' isn't a word tht i really use regularly
esp. w/respect to my style  . . or clothes / fashion in general
imo . . i've always equated glam w/high maintenance . .
so smthn along the lines of v.immaculate, pulled together.
luxurious + an w/ element of mystery / enigma . . .
sort of film star . . monroe etc.

*agree w/fab tht there's a diff. connotation between 'glam' + 'glamorous'
glam sort of alludes to . . . glitz + glam & glitter + drag queens imo

i thought glam died when brett anderson started wearing jeans..

pardon me.

 ^ from the band 'suede' perhaps?

Edit: someone already got there

I don't really understand how that would kill glam at all?

singer of suede (a british band). they were glam rock in the grungy 90s.

okay, it wasn't funny anyway.

...
i don't think glam died...but that band sure did...

:innocent:

i think that glam means something different based on your perspective...

i think i reference to hop hop it is akin to the term bling
a la POSH SPICE...:yuk:

ah yes...glam as in *I can't control the amount of lipgloss I use* glam. The good ol' beckham treatment

^^That's an 'interesting ' take on glam rock.

Just the word 'glam' by itself for me has bad connontations of glitzy things that look cheap and tacky. E.g. Girl in changing room trying on a pink sequinned glittery assymetrical dress and girl's friend saying 'That looks so glam!!!'

o. i do love vince . . !
wht a stud !

ny dolls..iggy pop... david bowie, I think it was something that was def going on in NY, I think Warhol really developed the idea and image of glam, esp in his mag 'Interveiw'. (look at David Lachapelle)
I think hair metal is very glam.
basicaly take your ques from junked out drag queens and you'll do fine.
AS glam and time moved on I think you can see it in rockabilly, gloth, clubkid style, raver style, newwave, etc.
F* come to think of it, hip hop has been nothing but glam for the last 10 years. sort of glam meets broadway
For the most part I think of style (fashion) and music when glam is brouhgt up. Oh, and actualy I think it may be more focused on men, gender bending all pussed out. :mohawk:
men wanting to be glamerous like monroe....
but it always sort of has one foot in the gutter.

fab said it.....
glam and glamorous couldn't be more different in my books.....

i think MAC puts the right spin on what the word GLAM conjures up for me.....
lots of glitter....sparkle.....DRAMA.....
with their VIVA GLAM campaign....

pamela....linda....missy.....

its overdone....its 'tacky'....
its showgirls....VEGAS.....its fake....

big and embellished and opulent....

ive always thought there was a big emphasis on the EYE in the 'glam' look....
that big sweeping overdone palette of color and PUNCH....
the viva glam images show this quite well, i think....
