Get something that talks about grid/layout. Ex would be "Making and Breaking the Grid" learn typography basics too. "Stop Stealing Sheep is a good one". Lastly for the showcase, I would recommend Type Director's Club annuals. They will list what typeface was used in the project. That's what comes to my atm.

i recommend josef muller brockmann's 'history of the poster', among his other books.
