CUBAN SAGA

ATLANTA-based fashion company Fashion Victim has threatened to sue a mail-order business in Minneapolis for reproducing the image of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara on T-shirts, mugs and posters. The company said this week that it had acquired the exclusive rights to the Guevara image two years ago from the estate of Alberto Korda, the photographer who took the photo in 1960. Ironically, Scott Cramer, an employee of the Minneapolis-based Northern Sun Merchandising, told the Star Tribune that the Fashion Victim shirts are in fact made in Honduras, which is famous for it's anti-union sweatshop labour. "I told them that if I buy T-shirts made in Honduras, my customers are going to be very unhappy," he said. "I said if I would make a big enough order, could they have them made in the US? They said 'No'." Cramer subsequently received an email threatening court action if Northern Sun continued to use the image and informing him that Fashion Victim would sue for profits earned since 2002. Korda, who died in 2001, never received any money for the photograph, which never appeared in a magazine or newspaper at the time it was taken. He said it could be used freely except when it "dishonoured" Guevara's memory. (August 25 2004, AM)

Off topic: me likes your new icon - an incredible and a very important film.
On topic: Everyobdy prostitues Guevara's image, what are they going to do, sue everyone? It's like RIAA suing everyone who swaps songs.

hmm, I think you'll hear a lot of 'bad reviews' about Lars Von Trier films cause a lot people expect films to be a pleasant experience.

In my opinion, Dogville is pretty good, it's difficult and aggresive, but also very analytical and metaphoric.. to me, it's about it's about the whole misconception of the way 'America' should be. I don't know... I highly recommend it.

Dogville looks interesting i want to rent it.

I can't wait for The Motorcycle Diaries, it looks really good.

Besides bringing a very important philosophical problem which has been swept under the carpet in our newly formed fake politically correct world, it's a totally enigmatic and innovative cinematic experience - it totally blew my mind. It is so deconstracted that there is not a hint of covering up the story with any kind of effects. It's like theater on film, but still different. In a film like that there is nothing to take your attention away from the actors. Nicole Kidman did an amazing performance. The only other film that comes close to this cinematically is Reservoir Dogs which also was really theater on film.

BTW, Lars said that although the film is set in Colorado, he could've set it anywhere. The conflict in the movie is universal. Needless to say comments like these were only published in the Village Voice, and not in mainstream media. I actually thought that Lars will be subjected to a witch hunt here, but instead the media just chose to ignore the film (despite it winning Cannes).

I was wondering how I never heard of this film, I love Nicole and any movie she's in sparks my interest so I can't believe I didn't know of Dogville's existence. I guess it just was barely publicized. Will rent it asap!

Let us know what you think.

Che is idiolized by so many. But in reality he was a homophobic, misogynistic, person. Among other things.

Considering location and time, his 'homophobic' and 'misogynistic' persona was just one in billions.

He's idolized for what he did in terms of justice and politics, not for his private life :flower:
