GOSSIP:Marissa Jaret Winokur Humiliated At Gucci

No, I don't. I'm not interested in a fight. I'm just trying to make you see that perpetuating this dispute creates a negative atmosphere on this board and that is never a good thing, my dear.

Thanks! You know I'm a retail girl... :P
Now please let me state my OPINION, just my OPINION.

If these sales people were doctors, sanitation workers, care takers (aka important people) then I would understand them acting like snots because they're indisposable, we need them.

Retail sales people are RARELY educated in business and therefore most of the time have no clue how to properly treat a customer.

Quite frankly, I think monkeys could do their jobs.

Once again, just my opinion :flower: [/b][/quote]
 :ninja: ...my opinion is that you get worse and worse...

if you're so interested in networking and making connections...and since you seem to think that what you know isn't as important as who you know...then you are

a. contradicting yourself...
b. not doing a very good job of charming folks (which is all networking is)...

you'll learn...one's education really begins once they leave school and step into the real world...there's only so much you can learn from books...

ps...how's that gucci bag...btw?... :innocent: ...anything interesting happen to it?...
isn't kharma a wonderful thing...hahhaha

I happen to disagree with the idea that it would be OK for a doctor, sanitation worker or care taker to be rude or snobby. Any person in a service industry should show their clients/customers/patients the utmost respect because no one is irreplacable. People change doctors/vets/salons etc all the time because they don't feel they are getting the level of service they want.

You know what I've learnt during the years, both as a customer and service provider?

As a customer, you have a need to be seen and acknowledged. As a provider, you need to see and acknowledge the customer. That's it. It's really simple, social interaction; customer and provider should realise what they are doing, and play their roles, sort of... It doesn't matter if it's at Gucci, K-mart or some other place... Basic psychology, sort of.

My personal defining moment came years and years ago when I was the sales person; I was great and usually got great connections with the customers. I enjoyed my work! BUT, during peak periods I would feel really stressed by the amount of people waiting and would rush things...

Then one day, this woman asked me "Why are you so rude?!" and I was in shock! Me, rude? I suddenly realised that I was pushing and stressing people because I felt stressed, and I actually told her "You know, you're right... I feel stressed because there are so many customers, and I do try to rush things. You shouldn't have to suffer because of that!" You should've seen her, her face just dropped! But we had a little laugh and exchanged smiles when the shock wore off...

Remember, sales people are real people too. Warts and all. :flower:

 its funny you should say that actually.......because one lady who works in YSL here has a BIG BIG wart right in the centre of her forehead  and she's probhably the nicest SA i've ever come accross.......always helpful......polite and extremely apologetic when the new look books arent in store

maybe there is a correlation between more perfect looking SA's and being more bitchy because i find the most sly female SA's seem to be the prettier ones

im not sure about the men because they all seem the same to me.....mostly gay
about a year ago in versace i tried on a pair of jeans and i wasnt sure they fit me properly......and the SA grabbed the back of them and pulled them up a bit and said 'they fit you perfectly......you have a great ***' then he turned me sideways and touched my *** im not sure wether he did it to be gay or not
but i did buy the jeans :ninja: :ninja:

Nothing interesting happen to it.

Interesting things happen to Gucci bags?

I still use the bag once in a while when I go out. I cant use it during the day because it doesn't hold much.

:brows:
CelineChic...you may know a big deal about business and whatever, but you'll never get anywhere if you can't socialise civilly with people-even on the Net.Horrors..

Hopefully Bear will come along and lock this topic. It's creating a negative atmosphere on the board and eveyone who comes across it just HAS to add to the debate.

 Wow, Acid, does everyone want a piece of you?

Back on topic.....you know, I've never run into a bitchy salesperson in Seattle (but the guys at my favorite record store are ALWAYS stoned......coincidence? ). So it pisses me off when I go into a boutique in the lower east side and they don't even look at me, like I'm just not cool enough to breath their super-sanitized artsy-fartsy air. Last time I was in the city I went to Immitation of Christ, and I was getting the ice-cold hipster-shoulder big time. I liked this one dress but it was huge, so I went up to the woman at the register and asked if they had it in a size 4 and she just shrugged and kept reading 'FLAUNT'. I don't take that crap from anyone, so I left, but on the way out, I turned around and called 'Thanks for the help!'. She didn't even look up, but I felt better.

I'm not quite sure about that particular management style, but as a store manager I appreciate being told when one of my employees acts out of line. They don't just get "fired" for being "tattled on", they receive feedback that allows them to see why their actions created a negative shoppong environment for our customers. They are given a warning for this type of behavior and trained on how the customer feels coming into a shop with poor service. Getting feedback from underserved customers simply enables managers to ensure that the next customer has a great time in my store.
Exactly. :flower:

I don't mind if SAs fawn all over me and make sure I have everything I did... that actually kind of bothers me. But when you do need something, like slinky_vagabond did, and they can't even give you the time of day.. it's just so frustrating! Yes, maybe they're only making 6 or 7 dollars an hour, but they're not making that to stand around and talk about their boyfriends. Or read books. :censored:

I saw the stpry about Ms. Winokur on ET the other night... she ended up with a dress from Vera Wang. It was black. :flower:

ugh...i totally feel for ms. winokur (sp.?)...im a woman of color and find that some salespeople are soo inconsiderate but are more than willing to help out a white customer who comes at the same time. and im not even talking about high-end stores like yall refered to, im talking about random stores like the Body Shop and Bebe (ugh, dont ask). i was in ALDO, of all places, and i walked in at the same time as a white woman and the saleswoman immediately smiled and asked the white woman how she was doing (sorry i keep referring ot her race, im only mentioning it because its relevant) but when i looked up at her and smiled...she just stared at me. finally the other woman left and it was just me and the salewoman in the store and all she did was just stare as i looked at shoes, not once offering any assistance...ugh, sorry had to vent...i feel like have to dress to the NINES even to get minimum service but even then im treated badly if i am even acknowledged...

sugarpea, that sucks! If it's only because of race, that is just :censored: wrong.

Anyway, I had a chat about SAs with a friend tonight; he used to work in the most profitable store of its kind in his country. The main reason it was so profitable, as he saw it, was that the company drilled their staff to provide excellent service to everyone, regardless of who they were or how much they spent. You never really can tell by appearances if people will spend or not... Or if they might return sometime in the future and spend, spend, spend... You should build a relationship with the customers if it's possible.

Anyway, this co gives great service to everyone; even though their prices are significantly higher than comparable stores, they make loads more money...

Great service can make a difference!

I hate it when you walk into a store and the salespeople dont greet you even though they see you walking in. I dont have thickskin and im really sensitive so things get to me personally and Ill admit it, I'll cry if salespeople are ignoring me because its as though they dont give a rat ***. Hollister is the worst. Those employees will give you a full head and toe check and see if your standard enough to shop there. Im not white or blonde so some people are nasty to me in their, hell this one couple wouldnt move out of this tinyhallway for me to get out even though I ask them 3 times. Some of the salespeople at Louis Vuitton is nice. The guy at the door didn't say hi to me or anything but the lady was very kind and helpful. I dislike it when people judge you by your age.

Also the employees at French Connection are utter crap. I been into that store twice and those two times I never even got a Hi can I help you question.

can anyone say...

Really though, I refuse to think that anyone is indisposable.. Rude behavior is not appropriate coming from anyone, whether it is a SA, a doctor, a teacher, or a customer.

great service makes SUCH a difference...i cant tell you how many times i have been sort of ambivilant about buying something and i am persuaded to buy simply because the sales people were so nice...it makes such a difference in your shopping mood
