Photographs, clothes, jewels, films and other items belonging to the Hollywood star-turned-princess of Monaco are on exhibit in a show entitled
'The Grace Kelly Years'.
Set up at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, the show pays tribute to Princess Grace on the 25th anniversary of her death in a car accident near Monte Carlo.
The exhibition opened to the public on 12 July and will run till 23 September. It will then travel around the world for five years, stopping in Tokyo, London, Paris and in the summer of 2009, it will be in Rome.
The aim of the exhibition to keep alive the memory and personality of Princess Grace (1929-1982), who gave international visibility to the tiny principality of Monaco, which lies between France and Italy.
The exhibit includes personal contributions from Kelly's children, Prince Albert II and his sisters Caroline and Stephanie.
Albert said that the exhibit aims to be “loyal proof of the personality and aura of Princess Grace” underlining how “behind her legendary image she had extraordinary sensibility, she was a loving mother and she had a sense of beauty that made her constantly search for perfection."
All aspects of the Kelly's life - her childhood in Philadelphia her screen star years and her role as princess, are set up in 15 rooms, each having a different theme.
The exhibition begins with Grace Kelly’s childhood in the “Philadelphia Room”, where family items and documents are on show.
The exhibition continues with her debut in the acting world and life as a leading Hollywood actress (New York Room and Hollywood Room).
This section includes all of the 11 films Grace Kelly starred in, with particular attention placed on the ones directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
The “Meeting Room” marks the transition point in Kelly's life when she moved from the US to Europe. It includes the dress she was wearing when she met her future husband, Prince Rainer.
In the “Wedding Room”, visitors can see her wedding dress and the film of her wedding ceremony, when Grace Patricia Kelly became a Princess.
The next part of the exhibition reflects her royal role. The “Ball Room” has a collection of the numerous gowns she wore for the official parties hosted by the principality.
The exhibition also includes the “Great Love Room”, that marks the passage between her public life and her private one, where her close relationship with her husband, Prince Ranieri is emphasised and which acts as a prelude to the “Family Room”, dedicated entirely to her three children.
The exhibition ends at the “Private Garden Room” with a collection of paintings and the “Friends Room” with declarations from her dearest friends.
Kelly’s favourite dresses will also be on show in this room, including accessories such as the purse by Hermés which she made famous worldwide, as well as letters from famous fans.
