Gucci S/S 2020 Milan

You've missed the point, and trust me, I understand very, very well how a fashion show works. Their look was one of many. Models don't always get to go up to a board and understand the entire run of show in advance, thus, my stating that they may not have understood what was happening until being backstage at the show.

Yes, they could have walked away and left, however, they didn't. And bringing up AHS, is a moot point. Different times, and different realms.
There’s something called « rehearsal » that is happening before every show. So she was totally aware of what she was getting into...
Brands like Gucci that are showing in their own space can sometimes afford to have rehearsals with full looks.
Even without it...She went for the fittings and probably saw the line-up early on at the casting calls. Her stunt is even more stupid because doing that at that event is worse than MGC t-shirts. She inserted herself in the narrative and added more depth to the collection. Nobody will remember in 5 years that this is a protest...It’s just a catwalk picture.

She had her moment of glory and a very short-lived career. She better not comeback in 1year or two, having a tell all story about how she was « blacklisted » and how the « fashion industry did her wrong »...

Why wouldn't they sell the white section?? Not smart on their part. This only makes it more idiotic, superficial and pretentious. I think If you're gonna show it - sell it! That would be an actual statement; let people individualize the confining uniformity of society (kind of Punk).
Showing it as "performance art" separate from the show is just very embarrassing to me, offensive or not.
Can noone in fashion today actually GO FOR IT?!

As Lola stated, there are rehearsals and/or fittings days before the show.
It is not like this model appeared out of thin air just minutes before the show begun. She tried the whole look...and she agreed to be part of the show.

Stop giving attention to people who hate freedom of expression.

I don´t hate freedom of expression. I hate passive-aggressive people who agree to be part of something, when they truly don´t feel good about it; and instead of having the guts of walking away from it, they stay and try to sabotage it.

I agree, it's incredibly cheesy. I was disappointed they weren't for sale. Why go through the trouble of stylizing them and making a big hoopla around it? I suppose the fact that they did is what started the backlash. Maybe they were for sale and then decided to cancel production after the controversy?

To make them just for a show feels a bit wasteful and in these environmentally trying times, it's not a great look either. There's no win for Gucci.

Also, him situating his collection as the height of individuality, the absolute opposite of forced conformity, is so so ridiculous after 4 years of creating the same look, trying to define (conform) and force his idea of what it means to be "quirky", "different", "individualistic".

They try so hard... I want to see what the campaign right now!

Remember a Moschino bag with pills and took it out for being offensive? Why didn't the same thing happen with these clothes simulating straitjackets?

In defense of that one model..
By staying in the show it ensured that their message would be seen. If they had dropped out of the show and then posted that this show was offensive, who would listen to them? They're some no name model that most people haven't heard of. Staying in the show was more likely to get their point across, and it worked. People are talking about it now.
Also while I'm personally not offended by the straight jacket thing, I do wonder if people would be having a different opinion if instead of an outfit alluding to mental illness, say it was portraying something else like a cancer patient ...would it be more offensive then?

**I found a brand called Kimhekim that had a model with an IV drip in their show and people on their insta were critical of it

I honestly don't care about the political activist....or the beginning part of the show. I also don't care about the models or the music in the show. What I do care about is the clothes..accessories...shoes, ect. Not much else.

At least this caught my attention and had something exciting about it.

Not really a fan of the dull colors though- really muted and using mental hospitals as an inspiration.
I prefer last season- spiked collars and elf ears. Give us something interesting.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I'm of the same opinion as you. My problem is the way she's trying to rule what fashion can and cannot say in such a cowardly manner.

Agree with you! Last seasons were really gorgeous, also if this collection makes me remember his debut collection. Anyway, we'll see what Alessandro Michele will offer us for the fall 2020-21.

I'm not gonna touch on the controversy here, simply because I don't really have much of an opinion on it and I see where both sides are coming from... however, I think the opening segment is nothing but a useless gimmick, really. If this collection is supposed to be an antidote to times of conformity, shouldn't it express that by itself? Shouldn't we look at this collection and feel that sense of self-expression and liberty, given that those times of conformity are already around us, according to him?

And it's a shame, too, because the collection in and of itself is quite lovely (at least the womenswear). There's a new sensual undercurrent here that I quite like, a sense of mystery and restraint that he'd do well to build up on in the future. Unfortunately, it's marred by this whole controversy that could easily have been avoided if he'd just done his job better.
