Gwynnie has another bash at the Brits

Exactly, reporters take things out of context all the time, this is probably one of them.

she doesnt mention brits at all, just drunkards. this is ridiculous that there is controversy over this.

They totally twisted her words around, and not even in a believeable way.

She wasn't quoted saying it was Brits, she was being general. And she's absolutely right imo, anybody who is out of college and still gets drunk off their *** all the time needs to grow the hell up.

I would like to see in the article were it says:
"I hate drunk British women."
This article has obviously been written because they have nothing better to do than cause a bit of conflict.... where there is no conflict.
People who drink to get pissed are stupid... Gwyneth Paltrow is 100% correct on that.

What interests me the most is the fact that most of the people who responded to this thread didn't even question the article... or perhaps only read the headline of the thread???
It just proves that people believe anything the media produces... whether it has base or not.

Totally agree with everything you said. Some website takes something she says out of contents or makes up something and everyone jumps up and down. Why does this keep on happening to Gwyneth. Why her not Julia Roberts or Nicole Kidman or Uma Thurman. I just don't get it and don't say she brings it on herself cause she doesn't. Last year she had to actually say at her premiere "I did not say these things it's all made up". What has she ever done to these people to make this crap up. So sad.

i think i'll add to this:
gwyneth... go have an apple martini, or two

I totally agree with what she is saying, and I think it is sad that people have to binge drink and make themselves ill to have a 'good time'.
I agree with that, of course, and I don't think anyone balanced disagree, but that's not the point really.
Binge drinking is stupid, but you don't have to be a binge drinker or an alcoholic to get drunk or very tipsy sometimes. I mean, did she never party a bit too hard? Didn't she celebrate an Oscar or other with enthusiasm? Obviously yes, since she says she hasn't been drunk in 3 years.
What is so obnoxious with her is her holier-than-thou attitude.

"
I think it's gross. I really don't like drunk women. It's such a bad look," she told The Mirror. "I think, ooh you're really degrading yourself to be this p***ed in public. I think they're the idiot people and I'm the normal person. My friends are kind of adult, they drink but hold their liquor (of course everybody know that your ability to hold your liquor is directly proportional to your maturity...)."

How righteous and arrogant is that? Even if the idea behind what she says is right, she just sound horribly obnoxious. That's why she and Madonna, are such easy targets. They are both annoying and self-righteous twats who can't help but treat the unworthy world with their opinions on about anything (especially when no one asked them a thing).

Rant over.:ninja:

Some may call Gwyneth self righteous... I would say that she has her own beliefs and individual thoughts and isn't afraid to say it.

Yikes, that is harsh

Firstly she didn't say specifically "British women". Secondly, you're Mexican, why do you care?

sorry but i totally agree with what shes saying..i dont live in the uk but from what ive been told from people there binge drinking is a problem..and i personally dont like being with girls that are absolutely trashed..well its funny sometimes when theyre drunk..until they spew everywhere :P bleh

This is interesting no. I would guess that most normal, sane, reasonably intelligent people would think that idiots who binge drink/get habitually drunk are, in fact, idiotic. And presumably if you did think that there would be no harm in saying it. It's difficult to see how you can agree with her sentiment but think she is arrogant for saying it. Makes no sense. I've said a lot worse about the absolute fu*kwits littering the streets at chucking out time here, puking all over the street. Should I leave the country because I express those views?

I read the article, since it actually appeared first in The Guardian, and as soon as I read those comments I knew that she would get it in the neck for it. But, she was asked about getting drunk herself. She is a woman. So she responded by saying she didn't get drunk and she didn't like women who did. It's entirely fair enough. There was no reference to the UK there. At all.

A 35 year old woman, in any country, getting pissed and falling over is pathetic. I say nothing about men, because that was not the subject of the discussion.

agreed johnny.

On the way to work this morning I had to step aside two different pools of vomit. Lovely. Binge drinking in the UK is out of control.....

Exactly. Binge Drinking, no matter who you are isn't exactly the best thing to do. But..I'm not going to go out of my way to critisize people doing it, mainly because no one asked my opinion. She just acts as if she's never smoked pot, got drunk, or did anything questionable, which I'm sure she has.

No, didn't you know, Gwyneth is perfect(!)

Like I said, it's all about who's making the comment. Gwyneth praises the car wreck that is Madonna no end, and I don't think Madge is exactly the beacon of all things pure and wonderful. I'd rather be a drunken twenty something falling over the pavement then some aging popstar who brought out a sex book with images of her being raped in a Catholic school uniform.

Plus, the idea she commented on women drinkers - and overlookd men, although male drinking is just as much of a problem- and some of you are justifying it because as a woman it makes sense for her to only comment on women, is ridiculous garbage. So by that principle, in future I should not be allowed to comment on the actions of I don't know... Mr Bush because I'm not an American man? Riiight.

I actually think Mrs Martin could do with getting drunk every now and again. Would loosen up the miserable bitter cow.

I hesitate to argue here since you seem a bit of an authority on ridiculous garbage, but I don't think anyone suggested that she wasn't allowed or qualified to comment on men drinking, just that it may not have appeared immediately relevant in light of the particular question asked. Riiiight?

I didn't read all the posts, so sorry if it has been mentioned but:

Where did she say "britsh women" in that statement? Drunk women out in public ARE annoying and do make fools of themselves. It's fine to get a little drunk now and again... but do it at home:blush:

To be honest even if she had said British women, I as a British woman wouldn't have minded. God these girls go out in packs with the intention of getting drunk. For some reason they are a lot more visible nowadays than the men.

Didn't she also gush about Jude Law ALL THE DAMN TIME? Yeah,.i'd be proud to be friends with a sleazy, womanizing turd too. I'd take a puking brit over a two-timing nasty man anyday. She's an excellent judge of character this Gwyneth is...

I don't get why people think that just because you've tried stuff in your past it means you can never criticize anyone for the rest of your life. If that was the case NO ONE would be able to pass judgment on anyone else. And as much as I think people's personal and private choices are their business and shouldn't concern me, when their choices become public and annoy the hell out of me (such as drunk girls wearing next to nothing walking down the middle of the street where I'm trying to drive, or drunk people being obnoxious and loud at 3 in the morning) I think it's perfectly alright to criticize, even though I've been drunk before in my life.
