Handbag Recommendations

now is a great time to buy any "designer brand name" bag you want, as all the major department stores are having their end of the year sales, but you have to act fast! the good ones are disappearing in the blink of an eye. bags that used to be over $1000 are now easily less than $850.

like mentioned before, get something basic for your first bag, so you will get lots of good use out of it. i personally prefer brand names that are not as easily recognizable, or logo-ed out... BOTTEGA VENETA makes some great basic bags. i am partial to YSL, GIVENCHY, LANVIN, MULBERRY, and my personal fave, CHLOE.

i love CHLOE so much. i have 4 of their bags, and i love that they are so unique, not easily recognizable, excellent quality and attention to detail, great leather, and are not copied by the fake-bag market yet... that means i will not bump into anyone who is carrying a fake one. also, they are not mass produced like crazy, so there are relatively few people who will be carrying the same bag as you (unlike, let's say, MARC JACOBS, which is all over the place right now, and the fakes being produced are out of control).

ok, enough of my ode to chloe! happy hunting... and beware, because once you start buying designer bags, there is no turning back.

actually i'm seeing some fake chloe silverados on ebay, but you're absolutely right theyre not as overexposed

I'd go with something Bottega Veneta, the quality is great and they're not overplayed like so many other bags.

This is a cool thread, i have to agree Chloe are amazing, love the leather camera bags, with the amazing chain and leather handles, really chunky things. I'm a lover of big bags, I know there's a lot of MJacobs bags around, I think it's because of the success of the Stella, a very cool large tote in lovely colours. Givenchy and Mulberry are lovely too.

I think the Celine biker boogie bag is groovy, with a bit of quilting on the front, it's a nice alternative to the sleek original boogie bag. Maybe they are in the sale right now.

I havn't seen Magli bags for a while, they were hot in the eighties, maybe I'll take a look in they're boutique for inspiration. Sergio Rossi are always elegant aren't they, to match their marvellous shoes and boots.

Tanner Krolle have a gorgeous shaped bag called the Cutter, it's a very practical bag and doesn't scream designer at you, but you can see it's a class act. Great colours this season too, Quentin Mackay is doing a great job there, but I'm not keen on his blue 'Hot chick' bag.

A nice croc print Prada maybe?

Oh there are just too many to choose from :P

Best of luck and happy shopping :flower:

For the first high end bag, I'd suggest keeping with a classic style that won't fade out....like a nice little Chanel bag (can never really go wrong). Steer away from the big, silly trendy bags for your first purchase. You'll feel the right vibe when you find the right one. "You never forget your first...."

I was just wondering what some of you all's suggestions are about getting your first big name designer handbag? I willing to spend the max of 850.[/Q

i think for your first designer bag, you can't go wrong with a LV, sure there are some more trendy bags around but in a year or two they will be out of fashion, also Lv is much better quality than bags like gucci and prada.

I agree but a Chanel bag for under $850 will be kind of hard to find.

When I saw the title My First Handbag I had a flashback of the very first bag I bought. I was 13, and it was a black and white checkered bag. I had payed 10$ and I still have it (yet I don't use it anymore).

But for 850 I'd go for a Bottega Veneta.

i don't know its cost, but i would DEFINITELY get the small balenciaga motorcycle bag, probably in black. i think it's classic and modern at once, and very beautiful.

My first was a Gucci - I've haven't used it at all lately but will when I get back for Christmas. There's just something special about you first...

I'd go the Botkier Trigger bag in Black medium for around $500 . It's a classic fabulous handmade in NY, everyday bag that is soo roomy and well organised . The leather is to die for and sits really well on your shoulders. Looks fabulous and you can use the change to buy yourself a wallet as well !

the botkier bags are so overexposed  and esp the trigger bag, i really dislike the shape. i think its undoubtedly more "LA trendy" than classic...
i'm loving chloe (although they are very pricey) and certainly bottega in terms of quality and a classic look...
and you just can't beat chanel when it comes to classics...the 2.55 in caviar leather is great and holds up very well but it's about 1300 USD (the lambskin is beautiful but very high maintenance)

Overexposed??? Well depends which country she is in. I have never seen a Botkier Trigger carried unless it's a fake one which are so obvious because they are either made of vinyl or brass hardware. LA trendy? well I don't know. I am in Australia so I have no idea .
Chloe, Bottega Veneta and Chanel are all over her price range of max $850.

Looking for a Tote Bag

Hi everyone! This is my first post. Im looking for a tote bag to carry my books in around campus. Im looking for something that is functional, but stylish and cute.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks:heart:

Basic black flat messenger bag - recommendations?

I'm in the market for a very basic black messenger bag. Something like the Dior Homme ones they had a while back (and it doesn't seem to be on eluxury anymore). Does anyone have any recommendations? I have been eyeing a prada one I saw one on ebay but I generally don't trust ebay for designer bags and I haven't been able to find an auth online store that carries them.

I like this one from APC

http://www.apc.fr/us/en/fiche_article.php?ref=1C017360188H

but I'm not really feeling the zippers.

It being cotton would be a plus.

All help would be greatly appreciated :)

Mulberry Barynmore is a good choice
