It can buy you the consultant or stylist's style. Doesn't mean that is going to be - or even pass for - your own.

(there are far too many cases out there of celebs/rich people looking like their stylists have been hard at work to make them look like they have taste and it never quite succeeds no matter how much the lickboot fashion press tries to pretend it's really [insert celeb name here]'s style)

You mostly need honest and frank friends, with no financial interests with you and who cherish you for yourself and not money or social status. Sometimes it's good to be called out by a friend on your style.
 
^I imagine that when you get to that level of money, finding people who are willing to do that becomes much more difficult. But I do remember anecdotes of old-school couturiers doing just that with clients - steering them into better choices, if you will. Of course that's dependent on one side being frank and the other willing to listen!
