Helmut Lang Resort 2009

I like all of the pieces, the minimalism and the prints are really great, i see chloe, martin margiela and jil sander references.

Looks a little bit like a designer mash up.. #1 screams Balenciaga to me  But I love the second half of the collection.

haha yes, i thought about that too. i think it is sooo simple that lacks the helmut langisity stringy and deconstruction that was what i always loved.

Too simple and I see the collections of Chloe and Jil Sander everywhere like everyone else does

i think this is too repetitive,

many parts seem like Josh Goot (himself already a copycat) or basics from american apparel.

it doesn't seem "designed" at all.

I really like this ...I adore the long grey jersey dress [which is very Calvin Klein]

And some of the jackets look so easy and cool, items I would love to have in my wardrobe.

How is the quality ?

way too boring....... Was expecting much more!

BRING BACK HELMUT!!!!!!!!!!!

I like this even more so than Alexander Wang's, and that's saying something. So many things to covet here...maybe because there are so many references to other famous silhouettes / designs?

^ Not everyone is into detailing/boho etc..there needs to be someone that design with strong simple basics in my...

That is part of my style... and it might not be your cup of tea, but is definitely not pointless.

I just want it seen done well... and I am tired of lines overpricing for basics.. if the quality is there then I will pay for it.

I love the shearling jacket... if it was done in black...great autumn jacket.

^Tbh, you could get many of these things @ American Apparel...
Or J.Crew, Petite Bateau, French Connection, Theory, Zara, etc...

Besides that, I was basing my stance off the work of Helmut Lang himself...
since they are painfully attempting to carry on his aesthetic...

...amplified by the use of Jil Sander SS'08 sandals... ouch

It's a risky symbol to use a competitor's, recognizable footwear to help sell your own product, even though they arguably fit with the aesthetics of Helmut Lang.

Otherwise, it's looking nice and simple from the pictures - sometimes you'll want something 'plain' and just very well cut... but unless they've changed direction... these clothes are doomed to disappoint in person, due to cheap fabrics and relatively high prices at that.

I can't relate to what you're saying about cheap fabrics and relatively high prices. They pretty much only use sea island cotton, denim's are around $100 wholesale, 100% silk charmeuse tank for $105, silk dress at $200... Overall I feel the qualities have a nice hand, and compared to a lot of other US-based brands the prices are highly competitive in the european market.

I never buy jackets at high street retailers as the cut can never compare...

I find it funny that you back up your statement by saying you can get a lot of this at places like American Apparel when at the same time in the Alexander Wang thread you say that you love him... he does nothing more than pricier basics as well.

as much as I love the old Helmut Lang...if he was now designing what he was doing back then it would look old.. I am not comparing this to the old.. that would not be fair..but some of the jackets does have potential, and I really hope the quality will justify the price.

^ You have conveniently embellished my statements, Puccimama...
Yes, I like Alexander Wang..
But his things far too overpriced for the trendy nature of the designs...
I SAID that he would fare far better if he LOWERED the prices of his garments...
Nowhere did I state that his garments justified the astronomical prices accompanying them.

Why one would spend 300+ on a basic, wht. tank-top is beyond me...
Esp. since it is a piece intent for everyday usage, which, as a result, would tarnish over time due to prolonged, constant wear...

The 'new'?
If that is the case, why not carry on this parade of banalities sans Helmut's namesake?
The fact that his name is being used for this says so much...
These ppl. are attempting to sell this trite mess by capitalizing off Helmut Lang's noterity... & very defined aesthetic...
You may be complacent with what, imo, is mediocrity...
But I am not.
So plz allow me to have my opinions...
As you can surely have your own...
