Hermès Designer Lemaire Resigns to Focus on Own Label *Update* Nadège Vanhee Hired

I have to say, if she's chosen, I'm very open to what she has to offer - but at the same time - it seems as though, by looking at her resume, all we'll be getting is more "good taste," clean, minimal, sexless, serious, boxy fashion. This aesthetic is getting very tired to me. It's nice when Phoebe Philo does it at Celine, but all of her imitators have turned her fresh aesthetic into yesterday's news. What's next?

i can't say that i ever cared much for the row since so much of it was about the olsen twins and their involvement and the style has been a bit too nouveau riche bland bag lady but i'd be really curious to see how she designs hermes. knowing the standards she's accustomed to from her days at antwerp(she graduated in 2003 as a partner with eva gommeren for her masters) and her early years at MMM(when martin was still there) i'm sure she has a bit of range technically speaking. she's also never designed really on her own....mainly assistants positions prior to the row,so she might be able to work out some of her own concepts.

Looks like it's really her

UPDATE: Multiple industry sources have now confirmed to Style.com that Nadège Vanhee will succeed Christophe Lemaire as the creative director of womenswear at Hermès. The house is believed to be sending out an official announcement tomorrow morning.

Super happy about it then! I'm eager to see her work for the house!

I'm very excited to see her take the spot. I think with a heritage of the brand she could develop something of her own at the house. She's already been familiar with luxurious, top-notch material already so that's a great start. But I do hope she would learn more and find her own voice in the minimal luxury aesthetic that's happening.

I was hoping for Hussein Chalayan, but another Antwerp Academy alumni will do. Just glad it's not another OTT campy sort like Gaultier or MJ. Happy to buy Lemaire's own line, I have already pieces from his first forays!

honestly really excited to see what she will bring, but I'm still devastated about Lemaire's departure.

Vanhee may be a huge hit or a huge letdown - time will tell. I'm worried because The Row has mostly copied Margiela's Hermes recently... Presumably her idea. I hope she can retain the sense of practicality and realness at Hermes and not turn it into too much of a "catwalk collection" statement that even Celine has become.

Here's another photo of her :flower:

the only difference was that with MM's hermes it was a bit more tailored and some of the most sublime cutting and volume i've yet to see since....the row looked too much like generic sacks in million dollar fabrics. hopefully she'll utilise more of her technical education and experience here. since i don't know much about vanhee's aesthetic beyond the row,i remain open...personally however i would have preferred somebody like a marjolijn van den heuvel.

Whilst I think lemaire produces beautiful pieces, the quality of his work there at Hermes and those of his own are of different quality, understandably due to the fabrics use, and presumably worksmanship. And mind you, they are pretty expensive still.

I sometimes wish designers can allow themselves to hone their skills at least a little more at rich houses with heritage like this (albeit the bureaucracy and politics) than to be overly idealistic...but well, they are designers..

good move though, for vanhee.

I know that when you see this thread suddenly appears on the new posts section you're going to think: omg! she's leaving!
She's not. haha
And because she doesn't have a proper thread I think here's the right place to say that...I've just discovered that she opened the fabulous Maison Martin Margiela SS 2005 show! I was literally speechless when I saw her.

I literally hate you for that lol!

She was obviously better at modeling clothes for Martin than designing them for Hermès.

Career-wise, I don’t think she could make a career in modeling. Instead, she should consider the stylist profession.
