Hijab Chic

I dont think its gross, i mean thats their "culture" I understand what you are trying to say thoughl.
The thing is that these little girls are forced to wear these hijabs - by Somali families who have lived here for 30 years. It's mostly Somalis that do that to their children, but I've seen some Arabs do it to. Not so much Turks, Afghanis or such. I mean, all of which live in Denmark of course. They wait until puberty, and they can choose not to. But little 6 year old girls don't have a choice. Culture or not, I think it's disgusting. Religion should be a choice, not something you're forced into.

I don't dislike the hijab, not at all.

^Dittoi hear alot of women where i live say they make thier 10-11 years old girls wear hijab just because they want them to get used to it!

I dont think its gross, i mean thats their "culture" I understand what you are trying to say thoughl. I personally have loads of hijabi friends and people i know, there are so many girls that dress like skankily and then wear the hijab it just goes to show that they are just engaging with the physical representation of their "religion" as apposed to the real meaning of islam you know the spiritual connection of just being modest.

Agreed, agreed and agreed! Could not have said it better myself! In most cases, culture and religion are closely intertwined that sometimes it's really hard to separate from each other.

As a muslim, I get tired of all the stares that I got from people whenever I'm wearing my hijab. It's just annoying u know, I just want to blend with the crowds. And now, I rarely wear one (I know sometimes I feel guilty for compromising my own religion:unsure:). Even muslim themselves judge one another when others dont wear the hijab, it's just stupid and immature really .

I guess it all depends on your intentions, if your intentions just to please your parents by wearing hijab then I think that's wrong and I think the only good reason that u should wear it is essentially for yourself. :flower:

Guys, this isn't a religious topic, it's about the hijab in style and trends. More pretty pictures please! :P I'll go searching for some tonight.

Sorry got carried away, hehe  anyway I found this on the net, I dont know whether u consider it to be pretty but I find it quite nice. It's one of the styles that are often used in Malaysia. This picture is basically telling u the techniques of tying the scarf.

I find this "trend" very interesting. I say "trend" in quotation marks because I haven't really seen it anywhere, so not sure if it really made it very far as an actual trend.

I'd like to try wearing a scarf, like a hijab, as I believe they're called... but I'm a little scared, simply because I'm worried having a little blonde hair blue-green eyed girl wearing what is often a very important Muslim custom, could be kind of offensive to anyone Muslim, since I am not Muslim and in no way practice their religion. I know it's about "style" right now, not religion, but for those who are Muslim, I think wearing the hijab is a lot more than just "style" or a "trend"...

I think maybe I'd be more open to wearing a hijab, were I in another country where most women and girls wear them. Then it would look more like I'm being respectful of their culture, and not like I'm just ripping off their culture to make a fashion statement.

... If any of what I just said makes any sense. :P

^ I understand, because I'm too afraid to do it as well. But honestly, putting a scarf on your head isn't specific to Muslim culture. You find it in every single culture. Then I feel a bit silly because it's not like say, Audrey Hepburn, had any fears about covering her head with a scarf. :/

"My friend got kicked out of her house for not wearing the hijab and shes only 15 almost 16. No joke. Kicked out nowhere to go until my friends mum took her under her wing just before her exams! and shes not even a sl*t she dresses decently and actually believes in her religion. I wish more people would focus on modesty from the inside and their behaviour before they focus on the outside"SHSH- i'm so sorry about your friend. i know there are so many muslims who force their daughters to wear hijab and i think it's totally wrong. i mean the hijab is not just a garment on top of your head, it's above all a state of mind.Unfortunately here in ksa women are forced to wear it "in some areas" because of the "Religious" police.. not because they're ready to wear it.

hm.. my sister is 15 and wants to wear a hijab but my father wont let her!

great thread, i have to say for some reason i was surprised to find it here. I'm part egyptian and grew up in egypt so i've seen and been around women who wear hijab many many times, and its always interesting to go back to north america and see how they perceive women wearing hijab as oppressed sad people..

anyway this thread makes me excited to go back and see all the trends
