Denim Dresses

the one thing i hate i hate abt denim dresses is that they must be fitted up top and i feel that it's too easy for designers to get wrong. what if i had triple d knockers but size 2 bottom.
i've tried on way too many with my 34 a boobs and i look like im swimming up top. with tight bottom half.

omg britney haha.
i love them! well not necessarily any of the ones in this thread, but i like the idea of denim shift/mini dresses. i want to make one.

most of the time i find denim dresses to be denim overkill..
Miu Miu did it nicely with combining different washes. still not the first thing i would go for, but i think that's a good example of doing it right without screaming denim denim denim.

denim dress done right...

i guess that one is ok..but still not easy enough i feel. if i saw that on the street, i'd think, she looks stiff.

wow.... that britney picture is just :shock::shock: And I thought she started disintegrate around 2004, apparently much earlier...
I hate denim dresses, they remind me too much of my childhood.

Save for the Marc Jacobs, I really don't like the denim dress looks. I do tend to think of that horrid incident with Brit and Justin and regardless, I didn't find the dresses (other than that Marc Jacobs dress) very impressive.

Sometimes the denim is so processed it's not really like denim anymore
It could just be some other type of fabric
especially when it's become so soft and flimsy
I wonder if there is any point after, making a dress in denim :ermm:

I love how that dress looks, luckyme! It's kind of velvety
I like the washed out areas

^^ i was just going to say, doesn't it look like some of these are chambray instead, with the drape? like the last pic in post #27

i love a chambray dress in the summer (esp in a dark color that looks like denim), and i can understand a soft-soft treated denim like in post #25, or a fabric that alludes to denim (like the donna karan above i think?) but otherwise i think plain old denim would be too unyielding for me to wear personally... so uncomfortable... i guess it'd have to be really tailored too...

I've been searching for a nice denim dress but haven't found anything I love, plus some of the dresses are so stiff; I'd like a softer fabric in a dress, but not as flimsy that it's not denim-ish anymore.

The monki ones are really nice!

the simpler sexier versions are good especially when worn with metallics. I also liked the some Ralph Lauren Victorian style dresses that came out abt 3-4 yrs ago that had denim corsets.

What do you all think of denim dresses?

I love it when it's done right

I was looking through old shows and came across this cute dress from marc by marc jacobs ss07
fantastic, saann. !
that was definetly one of my favorite looks from his SS07 collection . . I love how it was styled. Perhaps if it was just a denim dress all by its lonesome, it wouldn't look as cute.
+ the hair?. everything just ties into the dress.

luckyme, I love the dark denim & black stockings combination  so pretty!. I think the key to acheiving this look is finding a denim dress that isn't at all bulky or uncomfortable . . & pairing it w/v. minimal accessories. A skinny belt here, a thermal l/s t there . .
its really v. easy for denim dresses to look hideous . . one wrong turn & the whole outfit could go horribly askew.

the monki pieces in post#27 look so soft & airy.
perfect, imo ! . sign me up for one
