i think this is really hard to get right. it harkens back to something i don't like but can't quite put my finger on. i liked 70s style denim dresses the last go round. i just don't see how they can be deconstructed or reconstructed to work this time. but would love to be proven wrong. i love denim. i have 1 black denim shirt like dress from the 80s. oversized boxy top. tighter mini bottom. with buckled on the sides of the hips. i love that. and i like this by With Hearts in My Eyes from the Bona Drag site. i hope i can say that here.

The one problem I've expressed with denim dresses is in trying to make them every bit as fashionable as a traditional sundress. I'm sure sundresses are going to be in style for Spring and maybe Summer as well. I usually think jeans when I think of denim. It's been the fabric of choice for jeans for countless years. The problem with denim is that it's not extremely fluid. I prefer more fluid fabrics in dresses. It's the reason why you have such lovely dresses made of airy and comfortable fabrics. I think a lot of us can agree that pulling off great style in a denim dress is near impossible. Most denim dresses I've usually seen are mostly (no discrimination) dresses for older women or maybe very young girls. I don't see any designer pulling this off perfectly or any woman who can pull it off perfectly.

All I'm saying here is that denim dresses can work. But the real concern is going to be in trying to make these as chic as possible so that you may see your best girl friend wear one looking real stylish. I've seen my fair share of denim skirts. Denim skirts ranging from minis to floor-length skirts. I still remember one of my friends wearing a beautiful floor-length denim skirt pairing them with a nice pair of flip-flops. The way I like to think of most denim dresses (especially stylish ones) is that the goal is to offer the comfortable feel of denim jeans in the form of a dress. I think you have to build around a denim dress to be every bit as dressy and stylish as the skirt portion of the dress. It has to fit very well for the torso while still providing the airy appeal to any skirt. Comfort for the torso + airy feel for the skirt part = an exceptional denim dress. At least, to me. I think designers are really going to have to convince ladies that these dresses can be every bit as stylish and chic as their favorite sundresses. Until then, I'm sure most will go for the lovely sundress in their closet (unless you're a tomboy or just don't like dresses and skirts) and leave the denim dress hanging on the hanger in the closet.

yeah, even the one's above are beautiful, do not count as denim to me.
i'd like to see serious denim done right..
but i just don't think girls like heavy denim on their booms.
i put my jeans on my bare skin just to see how it feels and i cringed.

Its a hit or miss on the denim dresses IMO. I adore the Diesel and D&G ones!

This dress just caught my eye before i read this thread, but i agree with people on here, it'd just be too stiff. Being size 14-16 UK makes it worse, so i think i'll leave well alone

^ no offense but that, to me, look like maternity wear. It looks too bloated - I think denim, because it IS so stiff/thick, needs to have a neater, tailored, slimmer look. Gemma's dress is fantastic.
