Check out some head shops, you have to sort through alot of bad tye dye and stuff with pot leaves plastered all over it. But you can find some really good bohemian type stuff for cheap.

Oh, I really love some aspects of the whole boho universe, not so much on the hippie side. I really love the layed back look of the boho style, sorda like a 70's feel, for me its shades of gold/bronze/nude, and maybe a vintage tortoise shell lucite necklace, of course huge sunglasses  always, absolutely cant live without them. Or rich colors, like plum, or lime, or turquoise, with bronzed cheeks, smokey eyes, and messy hair. the layering of light fabrics, and some textures. I dont really like flowy ankle lenght skirts, or any kind of floppy hat. (thanks for bringing that back j.lo ) Boho in general gives me a beach vibe, like the riviera, glam but not forced. It can be sexy, but not overtly so.
It also seems to me to be very easy to add whatever culture you like, which is awesome, like if you like east Indian, or Japanese, or victorian, or african, you can throw on an african necklace, and it will mesh, or wear a kimono top, and then slouchy boots, or big Indian earrings, and some how it works. ok, maybe all of thats not necessarily boho..... oh well

i like the boho look, and i also notice that more people are dressing that way lately..so for me i make a point not to do it like everyone else. just an example-everytime i see someone wearing kukui nut necklaces theyre always brown or black. i just bought one on ebay, but i got it in cream. i dont want to look like i'm trying to imitate a pic i saw in a magazine on a celebrity :/ but i think part of the reason the boho look has gotten big is that its just quite appealing for many reasons. for one thing, its wayy comfortable-long flowy skirt and flat sandals..its just comfortable and feels good on a hot summer day. also i dont think it looks as try hard as some other past trends. i dont think it looks as try hard as some other past trends have. and if you have a few grains of imagination you can manage to not look like youre just trying to imitate a trendy look. i mean its not hard. if everyone is wearing a certain flat sandal, find a sandal you like in a different design. but the boho look is the first one in a while thats appealed to me..usually i just do my own thing and dont pay much attention to trends. i do read fashion magazines but if i dont like a look i dont like it, i dont care how "in" it is.

i t hink the problem with the boho look getting boring is just because there are too many ppl with no imagination. they see an outfit they think is cute and go and buy that exact outfit, instead of trying to do a variation on a theme.

just my two cents.

i  kukui nut necklaces... i sell them on eBay now actually... my friend's dad has a lei stand so i'm helping them out. plus i get a cut. sweeet.

After two years when the thread started what do you think is happened to this style? Do you still wear it?

I do, always have, always will. I don't care if people think its "out" . for me its not a trend, its just a style thats been here for decades. and its so me.

I still wear it sometimes. I think boho went wrong because everyone was wearing the same pieces like those peasant skirts in every color of the rainbow. The styling was also very boring. Most women I saw on the streets just wore the skirts with a plain t-shirt or cami and a sequined bag. No imagination! It looked bad because most people were just following the trend. They were only buying what they saw in the store window. Now however, everyone is wearing skinny jeans and some are ignoring the shape of their body. The jeans are just plain unflattering on many women. Same thing, different style. At times like these, I'm happy strutting around in airy dresses. I also like the vintage aspect of the bohemian look. Basically, anything goes! I love collecting beautiful pieces from thriftstores and mixing them in with my wardrobe.

i think its funny how buying into the trend at the lowest consumer level at old navy and gap and claires makes it accessable basically to everyone and thus everyone can be trendy. i dress boho, but with a very hightened sense of fabrics and textures....i collect vintage silk and cotton woven pieces and ther are so many different types of natual fabrics, flax, linen, silk, cotton, chambrays,etc... that epitimize boho luxe in my opinion than polyester at old navy. it is about the feel of the clothes, and that sensitivity, tha makes one look chic and carefree, but doing it with really cheap materials to get an instant thing just ruins it all for me. with true boho clothes, since they are natural materials, there's a care in the ashing and wearing as well. not something that crys "boho" when you take it off the rack at old navy and toss it in the washing machine. it definately is about a lifestyle, and an appreciation of fibers, colors and fit.

thank you. hopefully that post came across right....sounded good in my head, but the coffee hasn't kicked in (i just woke up  )

But the funny thing is that while everyone proclaims boho as dead it is still thriving albeit in different forms. I mean the whole baby doll thing, long loose hair, handicraft styled things, big sunglasses, chunky knits belted, pixie elf boots...all of these things bring to mind the late 60's early 70's artsy chicks which is still boho...perhaps not the boho of tiered skirts and flip flops, but still...the 60's 70's look is here for a while, and I for one am enjoying it.

i dont consider people who buy their tiered skirts at forever 21, paired with wood beads from Claires, with flat sandals from Old Navy... boho. they're just following the trend. they're being TRENDY.

true boho is more about the lifestyle i think... living a luxurious, simple life. with it being reflected in your clothing choices.

Ha, I totally agree with this and Jun3...it's quite a laugh actually, how this look is called "boho". Quite the opposite, as true bohemianism is all about individualism, free spirits and questioning the status quo.

Anyway, real bohemian artists never call themselves "boho"...so there's no conflict there...:p

I have always loved the bohemian and hippie style, and even though it was so "in" last year and so "last year" now, I continue to rock the boho style B)

Key elements for me is:
  • Full skirts
  • Floral patters
  • BIG sunglasses
  • Long wavy loose hair
  • Big earrings
  • Leather boots
  • Sandals
  • Bell sleeves
  • Flowing dresses
  • Bead necklaces
  • Waistcoats
I try to mix this with classic stuff like tailored jackets, tight jeans and simple cuts. Thats how I make it "my" style, I guess :p

"I don't like it when it's "overdone", it's nice when it's mixed with "preppy" elements and everything kept simple and clean!"

I totally agree with this. But for some occations, I love overdioing it a bit, with patterns, layers, beads and earrings

I like the updated version of the whole hippie/boho chic, it is much more minimalistic, no more fussy over the top accessories like big beaded necklaces, sunglasses, tiered skirts, flowers, etc.

Very clean lines, au naturel. Marc by Marc Jacobs F/W 06.07 did it perfectly. Dark colors, totally in the mood for fall with faux leather camel brown accessories/shoes.
