Aha. I was recently corrected by someone who told me to do the opposite, but I will go with what you've said. Sorry about that.

I've had another Longchamp over-the-shoulder black patent bag for about four or five years now and have gotten so much use out of it, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another just like it. It's so perfect for going out at night, and even though it's gotten a little banged up, I still love it as much as I did when I picked it out. So the style has been a great investment for me, personally. (This is mostly in response to softgrey's comment about still having stuff from the 80s. Makes sense to me!)

I have a pair of black patent leather shoes and I love them!!! :) I love patent leather!
 
I just bought some black patent penny loafers (inspired in part by those of Alexa Chung) and I'm sort of in love with them. I don't know at what point I ought to start considering this a vice.
 
I love patent leather. It looks new much longer than normal leather and it is much easier to maintain.

The glossy surface looks great with velvet or knit or any other mat material.
